Got back at 3am this morning and was too tired to type this out. So here is the quick and dirity:
This was an exhausting 2 and a half hours. The film felt like a bunch of scenes thrown together with little thought being put into pacing and making it into a single cohesive whole . Its as if each act of the film was its own movie. act 1: coming of age story abt a young striking out on his own, 2: conspriacy theory/thriller, 3: OH NOES, ALIENS BE HERE AND BE WIPIN OUT HUMANS WITH BEAM GUNS + bad arse robot destruction.
It was better that ROTF...but not by much. fewer sexual innuendos and "ghetto talkin" twins. Optimus Prime becomes even more of a badass. except for one scene in which he takes on a crane...not a transforming crane...just a crane....and looses. Megatron gets called a biatch. Oh yeah, robots bleed!
There was little to no emotional investment in any of the characters. Though it should be noted that this film makes several feeble attempts at pathos, which come off as cheesy and contrived. Especially the alien invasion scenes. Its as if this film took cues from the 2005 War of the Worlds with humans being shot by beam weapons and disintegrating.
Overall, it was ok. But lets face it. going into a transformers film, I really wasn't expecting much in the way of story telling. but the visual effects were friggin amazing
