Tony Stark Costume: Lab Outfit

So I don't mind saying this: this calf, was difficult. All the stepped down layers and skinny little pieces to fit together! But I gotta say, i'm pleased with how it turned out. After work tonight will be the other calf, then back to the boots to figure out if i can make those look more accurate.

I'm doing a similar build for the movie next week. I want to recreate the look from a lot of the wallpapers with Tony standing in front of his suits of armor, wearing the gauntlets and boots. I'm using floor mat type foam and Jackie's pep files. My arc reactor is a modified think geek t-shirt reactor.

Haha, yeah, i have that image set as my desktop wallpaper, and i just bought that poster on ebay to display with my costume when i'm done.

Nice. Here's my arc reactor. It's from a propmaker in the UK. I love it, it's really bright and looks accurate to the previews.

Two calves completed. I'm going to redo the shoes because i'm not satisified with how they look.

So this weekend will begin the process of coating parts with PVA (wood glue diluted with water). My smoothcast 65D is arriving in the mail today, so l will also begin sealing them ala james at xrobots.co.uk. Hopefully by Monday I'll be ready to start priming, sanding, and painting. So excited to see it come together!

So last night was the first step, sealing with PVA, aka, wood glue. I mixed the glue with a little bit of water to thin it and make it easier to spread. You want it a little thicker than milk. Too much water and it gets runny and drips while its drying. A simple chip brush for spreading it.

Spreading on a good coat over the exterior and over to the inside a little to make sure it's spread all the way around. After I coat each piece, I hung them on my makeshift drying line. The one on the left has been drying for about 15 minutes, the one on the right has a fresh coat.

The glue dries clear, so you know when it's ready for another coat.

Forearms and calves drying. I ended up applying 3 coats of the glue to everything. It's nice because the coats dry fast, and its nontoxic, so I could sit in my living room and watch tv while I was working instead of having to work in the garage.

Need to rebuild my boots, and still need to build hand guards and ankle covers. So more building and coating today, as well as starting on the smooth cast coats.
