Tony Scott Died in Apparent Suicide

Wow every major news organization got that wrong. This makes it even more bizarre that he would do it if he was perfectly healthy.

Media in a rush to report anything and everything to get ratings? Not surprising.

Yeah, that's seriously ridiculous and one of the main reasons why I don't trust the media anymore.

To quote the Deadline article linked earlier:

This is the second time in a month that ABC News has erroneously reported on a sensitive news story. During the Aurora movie theater shooting tragedy, ABC News claimed the gunman was a Tea Party member which was not true.

ABC News's tagline should be: Anything But Correct.

yeah i saw that. sadly BBC news ran with it too. It's like they love copying off each other. And in some cases like Aurora getting something wrong can be dangerous. Hopefully they can figure out what went wrong with him so his family can have closure because right now they've got to be wondering what caused this.

I drove the Vincent Thomas on my way to work today and noted that the chain-link fence enclosing the bridge is at least 10 feet tall, so for him to have scaled it is noteworthy. Plus, it's not a pedestrian bridge and for him to have parked his car would have taken out 3/4 of a lane. I suppose if he was quick enough, there would have been no stopping him. I'd like to think that someone at least tried.

All in all, just really weird.

Wow. This story just gets crazier as it unfolds. Tony Scott was an avid rock climber, so, it would have been no problem at all for him to scale a 10 foot tall chain link fence. I'm sure he could have done it in half a second.

The real crazy thing for me was that he apparently had the Vincent Thomas bridge in mind for the opening of what would have been his remake of The Warriors: Bridge Tony Scott leaped off was to be used in an unmade film | Movie Talk - Yahoo! Movies

"It's a city which is horizontal. New York is vertical, all skyscrapers, and Los Angeles is horizontal. I'm hoping to get a hundred thousand real gang-members standing on the Vincent Thomas Bridge for one shot," Scott told Rotten Tomatoes in 2009.

A few years prior, Scott had discussed his plan for the opening scene of the film to take place at the suspension bridge that connects Los Angeles Harbor to Terminal Island in San Pedro, California (adjacent to the city of Long Beach): "The opening of 'The Warriors' now begins on the Long Beach Bridge, and it's going to look like the L.A. marathon," Scott told MTV News in 2005. The next year he revealed more of his vision to Cinema Blend: "Then on the Vincent Thomas bridge, which is Long Beach, you have a thousand gang members up there, then Cyrus goes bang. It's almost like 9/11, bodies coming off, it just goes ballistic. Then these guys have got to get from the Vincent Thomas back to Venice, [California,] through all these different gang territories. And it becomes anarchy."

...

Also crazy, just about a week ago I watched "To Live And Die In LA" - a film in which a character jumps off that bridge.

I read that a death video is being shopped to the media of his fatal leap that multiple people recorded with phones etc. As far as I know no one tried stopping him and that makes me sick to my stomach. Now those people are trying to make a buck off a man commiting suicide?! Even if he was bound and determined to kill himself at least you could say you tried instead of recording it. Honestly I lose my hope for humanity with stories like this.

I heard ABC is reporting that not only did he have Brain Cancer but as he fell, he shot 18 people with Uzi's and then flew away like Superman.

Unbelievable that these news "organizations" report such lies. They are worse than TMZ. :thumbsdown

I'm not standing up for TMZ (because they are ridiculous) but they refused purchasing any footage.

I am shocked by them refusing it. Hopefully everyone does. Man Edward R Murrow and all the old school reporters are spinning in their graves. So much for double checking your facts before you go to print...or online nowadays. Too bad his family can't block any sales of those videos.

That was directed by William Friedkin. I was talking about was the odd connection to the bridge and Tony Scott, years before he chose to take his life by jumping off the bridge.

Couldn't agree more
