I've suddenly gone back about 75 years in time to get to the roots of TV SF; and, in doing so, I'm scampering back here to see if you braniacs can help.
There they are, the proto-nigh everything. I've decided to recreate the whole utility belt thing, based on observations during a set visit The New Yorker did back in 1951. However the one thing most important is missing - That belt timer thingie on their belly buttons.
It had to be easy and off-the-shelf back in 1951 - Everybody had one, and there were masses of space cadets at times. It LOOKS like a timer of some kind. But the problem is that knurled center knob. As far as I can find, center-turning knobs on Anything was rare in 51, and when one rarely appears, it's never a knurled circle - it's always a flat paddle. In addition, they are NEVER square - always round. I've tried photographic timers, kitchen timers... all just strike out.
Any masterminds in sourcing out there that might help me figure this one out?
