Since the timeline is only a year (so far) and they've shown the characters raiding department stores, their clothes should reflect readily available, common clothing.

Instead, Rick wears a holster that hasn't been in service for nearly forty years, the Gov has a $900 designer hunting vest, and I won't even bother discussing Michonee's leathery outfit. :lol

It just feels like the costumer went out of their way to create these unique looks and its at a point that's a bit unbelievable ... To me at least.

The holster goes with the firearm, which hasn't been made in as many years. A revolver is less common with law now, most carry semiauto handguns, so an old holster makes sense.

The governor is a corrupt character who turned himself into a leader. So expensive attire makes sense for him.

The Colt Python .357 is in current production and readily available for about $2k, however you're correct that most LEOs don't carry revolvers as their main duty weapon anymore ... So why does Rick? Not having read the comics, IMO, AMC is following the creators character concept. Even though it doesn't seem accurate.

The Gov's vest isn't just expensive, they had a low production run making it nearly impossible to find and not the sort of thing you'll just happen upon in a apocolyptic world.

If I hadn't done any research into the wardrobe I probably wouldn't care, but the more I do the more irritating it is to me. :behave

For a firearm that was in production for multiple decades, five years isn't a long time ... There's still plenty of them around. Even some that are brand new.

Yes, I was mistaken. I was thinking about all the new .357 revolver models (Ruger, S&W, Tarus, etc ...) I've seen recently and included Colt ... I'd still argue that the holster went out of use by the mid 1980's along with LEOs switching to semi-autos, so Rick carrying a revolver in that holster in 2010 is so unlikely that it defies logic.

The character "Rick Grimes" is at most in his mid-thirties. If he joined the force at age 18 ... That'd be about 1995. Yes, the Colt was still in production, but that holster was long gone, and more than likely even that podunk sheriff dept made semi-autos the mandatory duty weapon. There's no stretch of the imagination where "Rick as an old-school southern style cop. Not ready to turn his trusty sidearm for these "new-fangled" guns" should pass the BS filter of anyone over the age of 20.

This is the disparity between the storyline vs wardrobe that irks me. It's like the costumer just grabbed random stuff thinking "that looks cool" without much thought at all to the story.

I have found the quilted vest he wears on eBay for a very cheap price of £50 in the UK. I have bought it and waiting for it to arrive, I will judge the quality when it does and repost
