The Walking Dead.. The Governor...

The vest that the Governor is wearing certainly appears to be an upland game vest. The knife however could be almost anything from a high dollar piece that someone wanted to get onto the show, to a cheapie junk blade. The knife that he is posing with in a couple videos I've seen also looks different than what is pictured above in this thread. Better identification will be possible once sharper screenshots or behind the scenes info becomes available.

Ok.. heres a thought..does anyone think this guy is from money and has a college education. The Gov from the comic seen not to have had anything past a hight school education at lest to me.

I see he wears his pistol crossdraw...tisk tisk

Maybe he'll be a surprise lefty that likes to practice fast reverse draws to impress people? :)
I'm glad to at least be seeing another person using a holster instead of just tucking their pistol into the back of their waistband though.

That's a great find!

I just don't get why on a new show set in modern times they're using so much old/discontinued wardrobe items. IMO, all the characters should be wearing current "off the rack" clothes and accessories.

The better question is why the heck is a fella from a small town in Georgia walking around in a $895 Ralph Lauren vest? I guess it's the end of the world so might as well dress extravagant!

It would make sense for a lot of the wardrobe to be discontinued stuff. Having a more updated/off the rack wardrobe now wouldn't make sense since there are no new clothes being made.

Everything of Daryl's that I have identified is off the rack except his corduroy trucker. Makes sense that he would have had that since it is vinatge. Or he found it somewhere.

The Governor's vest...eh.

Since the timeline is only a year (so far) and they've shown the characters raiding department stores, their clothes should reflect readily available, common clothing.

Instead, Rick wears a holster that hasn't been in service for nearly forty years, the Gov has a $900 designer hunting vest, and I won't even bother discussing Michonee's leathery outfit. :lol

It just feels like the costumer went out of their way to create these unique looks and its at a point that's a bit unbelievable ... To me at least.

I guess they did...but hey your idea sounds the best..

Michonne's leather vest is readily available.

Never bothered to look for it, but her whole ensamble is a problem.

1) To me, she bares a stricking resemblence to Zoe Washburne from Firefly ... In just about every facet of her character.

2) It's neither tactical nor functional from a zombie fighting perspective.

Maybe this will help us figure this out?

Did anyone every identify this exact knife?

Nope, I think the concensus was that it must be a custom job. Also, they have yet to use it on screen.

This is common in a lot of shows, not just The Walking Dead and I think it has a lot to do with when the show goes into production or, more likely, pre-production. You have to remember that these shows aren't being shot right before they're aired, they're shot weeks, if not months, before episodes start to air and pre-production stuff like writing the scripts, casting, set designing and building, props & costumes before that. What probably happens is that many of the costume pieces that are off the shelf are bought way before anything is shot, probably as soon as a character is cast so that by the time you see the outfit on the screen it has since left store racks. It really doesn't take all that long for a clothing item to be discontinued, it's not like electronics or cars where the same item is available for years, fashion moves much faster and styles will probably change every few months or so. Just go down to your local Macy's or any other clothing store of choice, pick out an outfit or just one piece of clothing that you can remember if you see it again and then go again once every week and see how long before it's no longer on the racks.

One thing about discontinued clothing items, just because it's discontinued doesn't mean that it's no longer available. As styles change unsold merchandise will eventually make their way down the store food chain to discount retailers like Marshall's,TJ Max, or Nordstrom's Rack will carry "last year's fashions" and for a lot less than for what they originally sold for too.
