The Servo Pen. An oldie but a goodie

The I.D. sets got me thinking about these again.

It's been years since these were offered, so I thought I'd put up a pic from the old run.

A thing of beauty.

No Trek fan should be without one. I used to carry mine in my jacket at every business meeting. It was sort of a good luck charm.

Sold a $635,000 project with it in my pocket.

I wonder how much simpler the prop would have been had the episode NOT been intended as a possible series. They seemed to dedicate an inordinate amount of attention to the props, sets, and costumes.

Man, I've wanted one of those since I saw the original episode when it originally aired! The only time I ever saw one offered was a poorly made piece of crap at a convention that wasn't worth what the seller was asking. Years later, when I discovered that there were some really decent replicas made, they were gone before I'd ever gotten the chance to buy one.

Oh, the episode would have looked horrible.

The only reason for the high production value was the pilot aspect of the material.

I always thought it would be very cool if these could be made into real pens. Thing is, Gary never used it as a pen. I guess it's just an alien swiss-army-kinfe of sorts.
