"THe Rocketeer Artist's Edition"

Very interested in this ;-)

Is it the final version of this then?

I don't think it's the "final" version if I'm understanding it correctly - just another version. Maybe it's all black and white line art or photos of the actual page art (?). This is the first I've heard of it but the version you're linking to is/was an effort to put all the comics into one book with better coloring on them the way Dave intended. It appears to me that maybe this version is just trying to show off Dave's art without the coloring perhaps (?). I'm definitely interested in hearing more details on this book though...

IDW Publishing and the estate of Dave Stevens are pleased to announce a very special book honoring the work of this esteemed creator. Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer: Artist’s Edition will be a mammoth 12” x 17” hardcover book printed in glorious black and white. Nearly every page in The Rocketeer has been scanned in color from Stevens’ original art to ensure the best possible reproduction and highest degree of accuracy. Printed on uncoated stock and at the same size as the original art, Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer: Artist’s Edition will be the next best thing to holding the actual art by Dave Stevens.

Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer: Artist’s Edition will be available exclusively through IDW Publishing and will launch at San Diego Comic Con International on July 21, 2010.

Pretty neat! I already have the hardcover version released, which is super nice. I really like the fact it's printed the same size as the original art!

From reading the description, you're pretty much correct Dualedge. Hell, I wasn't even aware of those Complete books. Ebay, hear I come...

That sounds pretty awesome. I think I'll be putting that one at the top of my Christmas list. Wonder what the price on it's going to be. It'll have to be expensive.

This is version three from IDW: Version one was just the comic series printed on a smaller format or actual comic book size, Second version is the deluxe version which is supposedly limited to 3,000 copies: this book is done in better coloring and it includes a section of sketches of the rocketeer on the back pages. Also, it is larger format than version 1. Version three is the artist's book. Basically, they wanted to show dave stevens original art for each page. They want you to see the whiteout, the eraser marks, etc etc to appreciate his talent etc etc..I am not sure how many are being made, but it is going to sell for $100.

I knew about it for several months. Totally slipped my mind when I was chatting with you Rob .Sorry about that.

isn't there also a leather bound, signed and numbered edition? The edition size is around 240, due to Dave being unable to sign any more because of his illness.

You are thinking of the Deluxe version of Brush with Passions: the Art and Life of Dave Stevens. It is a different book which has three editions as well.

Deluxe Collectors Edition Brush with Passions Book I think is limited to 220. I have to recheck (pictured left)..The IDW Deluxe is pictured on the right.
