The Rhino, anyone make a good suit yet?

Im curious if anyone out there has made or knows of anyone who has made a decent Rhino suit from Spiderman. I understand that making a Rhino suit would be quite difficult. I was supposed to be making one for a friend for comic con but he wont be going, im still probably going to do the helmet i designed for him. I just wanted to see if there was anything else out there.

I have not seen anyone make a Rhino costume. I think the reason no one has done it yet is because the character has not been featured in a movie.

If he was a villain in a movie people would be capturing screen shots and trying to replicate the costume. Since it is only in comic form at the moment, he doesn't have a lot of interest.

I would make the costume out of upholstery foam, and latex. So far that is how I make all of my costumes :p .

Here is an awesome Hulk build thread. I really think you should use the Hulk build as a blue print. It is exactly what you need. http://www.therpf.com/f24/biopredat...-contest-entry-incredible-164942/#post2560879

Here is a great Venom build.

Here is a video on how to build a muscle suit.
Incredible Hulk Muscle Suit Costume : BFX - YouTube
You don't have to cover it in panty hoes like they say in the video. Just cover it with liquid latex.

Just make all the muscle groups and attach them to a dummy wearing a body suite.

Stick foam on the body forming the muscle groups.

Add the texture. I burned it in with a wood burning tool. You could cut out balls of foam and stick them to the build for warts.

Next cover the build in latex.

To fill in the gaps between the muscles use cotton balls dipped in latex.

Paint it all in grey, add some black washes, and that should work.

That is how I would do it.

Hey Alpha Proto,
while agree with you %100 it sucks that there must be a big ass motion picture for people to want to create a character and on top of that it's primarily replicas, im far more impressed when people put their own spin on a character. Not that replicating a costume or prop is by any means easy. I wish people on here were more encouraged to build new versions of their favorite characters than exact copies. I think that after i finish some current work i will begin the Rhino helmet...based on my own designs.

Thanks for the links. Im going to sculpt all of the pieces i need. Foams nice but it lacks weight and strength.

I agree. Replicas are cool, but it is so tough to get 100% accurate why not add a personal touch to the build? Then if you are confronted on why a detail is off you can just respond, "I meant to do that".

Foam costumes covered in latex can get some weight to them after a few coats :lol . I use foam because it is in my budget, and easier to get a hold of.

It is really rad that you can sculpt, and mold the entire build. I have an idea of how to make helmets, and mask, but have a hard time when it comes to anything covering the body.

How are you going to go about this build? I am sure I can learn a lot from it. It may change my entire method of costuming.

Yeah, thats very true. Sometimes those little would be mess ups can be happy accidents. I've seen some cool foam carved costumes out there and it does get some weight after the latex layers. It's a few hundred cheaper than sculpting and molding pieces too. If youre really interested you should check out some of the other good artists here and just jump into it. Best way to learn.

While i love most of the designs of the Rhino it wouldn't translate well into reality or a movie...unless it were a full body sculpt. I haven't really done any other sketches for the design aside from the crappy one im posting now. I just thought it would be cool to do a Rhino themed helmet. If i start soon i'll post some pics. But i hope that more people begin doing their interpretations of these iconic characters.

...well those are certainly good to start with. The top one looks like some sculpting and a lot of time was put into it. But it shows my point that it would have to be a full body sculpt for it to be a total success with that design of the Rhino.

I've always wanted to see a full rhino suit...you'r helmet design seems neat! only maybe a bit too thin..

Well, here are 2 slightly different versions of the kind of helmet i'd make. I wouldn't dare build a full suit unless it were for a customer. The 1st one has nostrils and the 2nd one has the eye HOLES as the rhinos nostrils. I think it's just a preference really, makes no difference overall. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions or comments.

There was a guy at C2E2 in Chicago who had a surprisingly awesome Rhino costume as well as a pretty cool Juggernaut. I really wish I had some pictures of those.

It definitely wasn't to the point of super detail like you're describing though. I haven't seen a realistic take on the character yet.

I just googled that suit. It's not bad. But yeah im certainly trying to design a much more realistic version. Thanks

I have always wanted to do a rhino suit. It is a do-able suit but needs lots of padding.

Hope to see some your images of your progress.

Im going to begin sculpting my design of the rhino tomorrow. I'll start a new thread if i like the way it looks.

I like the second version. The nostrils as eyes seems better than to have them on the forehead. Excellent drawings but to me, I would think it should protrude out more in the forehead area. Very BA nonetheless...wish I could draw like that.
