The most influential genre film of the 70s

Vanishing Point (1971)

I can’t claim it is the most influential genre film of the 70, but after Vanishing Point was released it has definitely left its influence on all of the car chase scenes depicted in the movies ever since, though Bullitt (1968) was a few years earlier.

I think Bullit is a bit more influential for car chases, mostly in terms of urban car chases. There's also The French Connection for that stuff.
