The Matrix: hollowed out book...

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a hardback copy of Simulacra and Simulation by Jean Baudrillard. As many of you know, this is the hollowed out book used in The Matrix, I was hoping to add it to my collection.

This book is very hard to find in hardback, I was hoping that someone in RPF-land would have a resource to duplicate the cover of this book so I can add this prop to the collection without having to locate (or destroy) an original.

For those interested, I found the following link describing the process to make a hollowed out book.

Thanks for any information you could provide, in the meantime I'm going to try this process out on an old data structures book that I haven't needed for awhile.

Seems a shame to destroy such a good book. I own it in paperback.

I work in a bookstore, and according to our software, it is out of print. Here is the ISBN of the hardcover to help you search.

0472095218

I would suggest ebay and calling used bookstores, especially in the michigan area, as it was published by the university of michigan press.

Thanks for the info, both of you..

juno - I was planning on adding the book itself to my collection (I'm already ordering the paperback) and then doing a repro cover for a hollowed out book. I'm not a huge fan of destroying originals if they are out of production or valuable to some other segment of the population.

This thread is a fantastic find, as i already have the contents of the book safe and have been trying to source a hardcover to duplicate as well. Thanks for the info as well! Edit: I should note to anyone seeking this, I have found 1995-1997 seem to be clothbound in red.

Aw man, we're going to piz off the book collectors just like we pizd off the camera collectors. :lol

But for the record, I too am opposed to hollowing out rare books. That would be wrong. :sleep

It's okay, it's from "The Matrix" not from one of the sequels, so it's for a good cause. :lol
