The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones

Someone asked me to post about my involvement in The Lost Journal of Indiana Jones, so here are some notes and points of interest:

I have input on almost every single page, whether that be one of my illustrations, inserts, text or editorial work.

The photo of Young Indy on the pony I made using an actual photo of a very young Harrison Ford.

The photograph of Indy's 1912 house in Utah was taken by COW member, Texas Raider.

There is a letter to Indy addressed to Albuquerque, NM (a city I called home for seven or so years)... though this is not an "easter egg" as it was chosen randomly by another member of our production team. I just enjoyed the synchronicity...

The rubbing of the headpiece was taken from one of the original props. Notice... it's NOT the usual headpiece.

The torn pages in the middle of the book became such a concern for some book sellers, that they sent out a special memo to employees telling them that these were MEANT to be there, so they would be prepared for unwarranted returns from customers.

The "Grave Robber or Archaeologist" article is referring to crystal skull Indy found in Belize years before "Kingdom of the Crystal Skull".

The border design on Sallah's letter was taken from a fan-made Grail Diary insert (the letter from Al-Jawf).

The "Marhala Bar" logo on the napkin is from an actual screen grab from Raiders, courtesy of our own agent5.

The photo of the Venice Library was taken by COW member "VP".

The telegram to Elsa is taken from an original LC prop, but the original as in English! So, we had it translated into German to make it more realistic.

The Colt 45 illustration was from unused Young Indy Diary entry and was mistakenly used in place of the Webley in the LC section.

There are a couple of cameos in the book... a self portrait and a photo of my wife.

For more "Easter Eggs" look closely at the "Stairs of Akator" sketch... ;)

Kind regards,
Magnoli

I loved your book. Thanks for sharing some insight. Now about those "missing" pages---clearly there is something drawn on them. Is there anything more than what is shown on the scraps left in the book?

Ha ha that's awesome. I love the fact that a few COW members had some input into the book...even if unknowingly lol

So...you going to be doing anymore projects connected to the bigguns Indy? Hope so...a decent grail diary that is authorised springs to mind lol

Regards

Don't want to ruin the illusion but... the illustrations on those pages were taken from my Young Indy Diary and are a sketch map of Stone Henge and some drawings from one of Young Indy's early travels to Africa.

Kind regards,
Magnoli

Thanks for shedding light on those pages any chance of sharing a peek at the complete pages?
I love this book and have read it to my kid for bedtime story, its about time to go into rotation again. I'm using the COC diagram to take a crack at a replica.

I'd love to see those, too.

Would be a cool insert to add to the book.

Thanks for sharing, IM. I love this book, and my little boy thinks it's awesome. I'm going to buy him his very own copy, because he always wants to look at mine.
Great job,
Mike

This project was arrange through a publisher and although approved by LFL, that's not the same as having a license. So, to do licensed diaries, I'd have to approach LFL directly.

Kind regards,
Indy
