The Jungle Book (Post-release)

Re: The Jungle Book

I thought the trailer looked great! But yeah I can tell Statler and Waldorf are making their rounds on a lot of "we got some CGI happening here" threads. Seriously does anyone actually think an animatronic snake and fake trees with leaves would look better? I agree bad SyFy CGI is just cheap and bad but well done CGI nowadays is pretty damn convincing. And that's coming from someone that stood in line to see Star Wars....aka kinda old guy. :)

Re: The Jungle Book

Initial reviews are outstanding. Currently at 100% on RT. Trailer brings tears to my eyes. The kid is simply arresting to watch.
This was released in India one week before US release and it seems to be very well received.
I will try to see it next week when it gets US release.

its too bad we didn't keep up this thread because this is looking like another big one for Disney.

Early on I was skeptical but now I'm all in. I can't go opening weekend as I'm out of town but I will be seeing this.

Re: The Jungle Book

Current overseas box office performance is really strong, this could be another surprise hit for Disney after Zootopia. Forbes thinks it could potentially break a billion:

If Jungle Book does break a billion and Japan carries Zootopia over a billion, Disney could be looking at 5 films in the billion dollar club this year, with Rogue One, CW, and Finding Dory rounding out the rest. I don't believe any studio has ever done that before. Meanwhile, it's a stretch to see any other studio crossing the billion mark this year. With BvS running out of steam and likely to finish under $900m, the only other non-Disney candidates coming up with a real shot are Fantastic Beasts and Independence Day: Resurgence. If I were a betting man, I'd say neither of those 2 films will reach a billion, but they could surprise us.

If that's how it plays out, Disney will not only be the only studio with a billion dollar film in 2016, but will also have FIVE of them :eek

Was not prepared for the feels from this film! Sher Kahn...brutal. Walken fans, there is a little token from a great SNL episode! Go see this film, but be mindful that this may be a little harsh for the children, depending on their age.

Should I do 3d? Or 2d?

Getting ready to go see it with my girlfriend.

If it's EPIC in the 3d dept I'll go for it... Not the biggest fan... But sometimes it's almost a nescesity.

Josh you jerky McGee!

That was pretty good... :p

Would you consider it a bear necessity?

I'll see myself out.

We're gonna see 3d here in a few hours.

Pretty much every review I've read say that this is some of the best 3d ever.

Basically if you can SEE 3d (some can't) and if you don't get migraines (many do) then it's pretty much a nescesilty. If you can grin and bear it...

:p

From people that have seen this, is the CGI overload mixed with live action too much? Should they have just gone full CG? Not to threadjack or anything, but with the Warcraft movie, 95 percent seems to be CG, so I dont understand why they added humans as live action, because everything else looks CG, so they seem out of place. Like a cut and pasted version of visuals. Is that the effect here, considering Mowgli is the only live action aspect? Or is there more live action that I missed in a different trailer?

From what the Jon Favreau said on tv the other day Mowgli is the only live action element. Everything else is CG. He also said Disney gave them plenty of time to work on the CGI, so hopefully it looks great. I cant wait to see this movie.

It was pretty awesome.

The graphics id say did set a new bar. The 3D did look great. The kid is very likable.

It's not the best movie ever. 3 or 4 MAIN characters have VERY little screen time... If you've seen the trailers, you've pretty much seen scarlet johansons entire part in the movie.

It had some sad and scary parts that might not be good for young kids.

All in all I'd personally give it a 92 out of 100.

It was a super fun ride. Not sure how much I would re watch at home?

Need a bit of time for it to sink in... Was different from what I was expecting a bit...

But REALLY well made. Favreau is the man.

I just saw it on IMAX 3D. The movie was good for me, my wife loved it. I was bored at times. The 3D and CGI was stunning. Final scenes were edge of your seat, hold your breath good. My wife and I had differing opinions on Neel Sethi's acting. I thought it was apparent more than once that he was acting/interacting with something that wasn't there. But I'm sure that's difficult for seasoned actors let alone someone that young.

Accidentally landed a free screening today, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Like people earlier in the thread, I didn't realize everything was CGI. Heck, other than the mouth movements, I couldn't tell some of the time if the animals were real or not (as a side note, I think this movie proves that a live-action ElfQuest movie is totally possible). I also went into this completely cold.

I believe that the story is closer to the book? I certainly enjoyed it more than the cartoon.

I was curious as to if they'd include the songs or not. When Baloo first started humming, I thought it was a great homage. And I didn't mind when he started singing, since it fit his characterization. I could've done without the duet, but it still worked. Louie's song, on the other hand, I hated. It felt out of character for him (he was being built up as a mafia type, then suddenly we get southern swing out of nowhere?), and the sequence didn't work for me at all. I think they should have done what they did with Kaa's song, and relegated it only to the ending credits (btw, did anything else come after that in the credits? We hadn't been planning on going to a movie, so we didn't have time to stay for the whole credits).

I did enjoy Johansson's portrayal of Kaa. I don't know if it was because she voiced her so similarly to Romanov or not, but the seductiveness definitely came across, and I loved it. I also liked that it didn't end the way the cartoon did, with him going to the village. Partially because it allows for sequels more, but also because, after his experiences and what happened, he's now welcomed more into the jungle community, and a bit wary of the man village, it just seems more natural that he'd stay (at least for now).

If I had to pick one thing that bothered me (other than Louie's song), it was that the wolves didn't have music. Maybe it's just because I'm an ElfQuest fan, but wolfsong is beautiful, and for them to completely ignore that made me mad.

In this case you'll want to go 3D.

Just saw it. Really good!

Besides the cowbell reference, did anyone catch the Caddyshack reference? Bill Murray's "No big deal" quote?

I like how they did the end credits, was pretty cool. And a shout out to Garry Shandling.
