I'm not dead yet! Progress continues, I cleaned up my apartment and got inspired to make a mess so I got these babies cracked out in a couple nights.

I'm going to modify the main arch, it seems too tall, but otherwise I'm liking these babies. Unfortunately my roommates heat gun exploded so I can't continue making the bracers and boots. I'm a stalled on the chest piece, I need to get some straps to hold the thing together, It's really hard to tell whether it's going well without it being held together properly.

I also got work done on the axes, so far the small one is nearly done, I'd like to work on the paint job though, it's too painty at the moment. The large axe hasn't changed much but I'm expecting my 3D printed pieces to show up tomorrow so I can finally finish that beast.

It just gets better and better! Axe turn out great. Will you be building the chest pce as well. I am following with eager anticipation. It is my hope to follow in your footstep's and start my own. I have been studying and looking at every picture I can find!

I haven't taken any pictures of the chest piece yet, but it's certainly in progress. I'll take some pictures once I get the major structure together. Right now it's just 3 big pieces that don't fit together yet, heh.

Viola! Got my Shapeways order, I had asked someone to do these for me, since I figured it would need mudbox or something but due to people being busy I just did it myself using 3DS Max, which was pretty easy. I got more of an exact look then mudbox or maya would have produced, but that's ok still looks cool. I modeled them in two pieces so I cold "clamp" them on to the shaft, without having to worry about sliding it up the whole length. I've attached them to the handle with two part epoxy but have let them set overnight before I fill the gaps.

Update so I don't double post again.

Here are the pieces attached to the handle, got to wait for the epoxy to cure then I'll get to stain and paint.

This will be such a stupid question, but what the heck. Could you please tell me alittle about how you made those ruins that wrap around your axe? I know I am not that intelligent and I am trying to learn as I go, don't have friends that do this great stuff. What is 3DS Max? Sorry for always asking you for advise.

Heh, it's not a stupid question at all, I'm in the Animation industry so I take a lot of things for granted. 3DS Max is a 3D modeling and animation program (Similar to Maya, Blender, Softimage, etc.). I used it to create a 3D model of the white pieces you see at the top of my previous post. They looked like this.

Once I had them modeled I uploaded them to Shapeways - Make, buy, and sell products with 3D Printing and had them printed. It cost just over $20 to get them printed and shipped to me in 2-3 weeks, I made sure to choose the cheap material (White strong and flexible) and modeled the pieces to be thin and hallow to use the least amount of material while still being strong.

Once I had them I used epoxy sculpt to stick them to the handle and fill the gaps caused by having a not so perfect piece of hand carved wood. Once they were dry they got the same paint treatment as the foam.

Hah good luck! There is also a community called thingaverse where people share 3D models for printing. You might be able to find someone in there willing to model something for you. As for my job, ya it's great when you've got a job and you're working on things but I recently got layed off due to lack of work for the studio, so it's got its problems, no such thing as job security.

Progress on the shoulder pads.

The other one is almost in the same state, but I've run out of large pieces of craft foam so I can't finish the vertical guard on it till I buy more. I've finally started getting EI cheques though, so once my credit card is cleared I'll feel better about dropping some money on a few heat gun and some materials.

I also snagged some stretchy straps and non-stretchy straps, for the sake of attaching the two chest pieces together and creating a belt. I plan on buying a butt load of snaps and getting my roommate to make me leather straps for all of the pieces, that way I can have buckles on the leather but have the functionality of snaps.

Tbh. I'm not a big fan of Fantasy movies..
but i simply LOVED the helmet you made :O Looks superb and makes me want to have one as a prop

I would if I had anything to report. Lack of funds has made making most of the smaller pieces impossible due to not having a working heat gun, and I need to buy more craft foam for the details still. I'm getting Employment Insurance payments now though, so once I know my credit card is a bit more stable I'll feel better about putting some money in to this again. First up is actually my chainmaille though, I've got an outstanding order from months ago and need to restock for a convention early Feb.

Just signed up to the RPF and this is the first thread I came across, and boy was it a joy to see the progress pics! Can't wait to see the finished costume!
