The history of Tennant and Eccleston sonics

Dr who props

Jr Member
The Aztec-used by Eccleston in half of series 1 and called this because the prop makers were called Aztec (the props look totally different, look at the crackle, I have some evidence that there were two props one closed, one extended, correct me if I am wrong)
the wide slider-a cannibalised version of the Aztec sonic used in the second half of series 1 and in series 2 also in Smith and Jones
the Intermediate-used in the runaway bride and in series 3 (I think)
the A and B Tennant (A known as the Hero as David Tennant got to keep it)- used in apparently some of series 3 (do not know if this is true) they were used definitely in series 4 and the specials. The A is the universal replica and was kept by Tennant. (ERROR LOOK AT THE A PHOTO THE PROP IS CLEARLY EXTENDED BUT THE SLIDER IS DOWN, WHAT?)
The Eleventh hour sonic- This was apparently the remaining B sonic with a repaint, it was destroyed in the eleventh hour but the destroyed version was actually a toy which was hidden through sparks, there are no public photos of it and I do not know where it is.
The Day Of The Doctor Sonic-for the people that have the MFX are lucky to have the exact sonic (except for the crackle pattern) that David Tennant used, it has the same crackle paint used in the Day Of The Doctor as he used an MFX only because his sonic was on loan to the wand company
Other-sometimes David Tennant used an Aztec sonic (there is proof of this in the family of blood episode.

A better A prop photo
a lot of the props were always remade as they were made out of rubbish materials but the head was swapped between each one, the sonic screwdriver since it's first appearance has always had a crackle meaning it had already been used before Chris first appearance, but he had just seen what he looked like for the first time in rose the first episode of new who. John Hurt the dr before him used a different sonic and if the sonic was first used at the start of Chris' appearance, how did the crackles come so quickly, we'll never know as Chris doesn't want to come back. Chris was not a fan of dr who as well. David Tennant watched tom baker and Peter Davison a lot, he was very fond of dr who and probably wasn't expecting Peter Davison to become his father in law. David apparently preferred the wide slider sonic used in half of season one, season 2 and in Smith and Jones, not in the runaway bride though as the intermediate sonic was introduced then. David loaned his sonic to the wand company and used an MFX in the day of the dr which is why it was heritage gold. There are replicas of these everywhere but watch out for the series 1-2 sonic because some replicas are inaccurate, the pictures posted as the real ones, use them to help you find accurate ones, also the best Tennant sonic is the wand companies as it was 3d scanned and has the exact crackle effect in every way as the prop but it is moulded in the handle instead of being painted on like in the prop but is the best replica fans will possibly ever get (unless someone manages to get the same crackle effect as the prop and gets it as a painted one). Also sometimes during when the sonic was eg: thrown or used as a stunt prop it was actually a modded toy as the valuable sonic real prop was not wanted to be destroyed. Hope this helps
