In our continuing quest to make every piece of armor used by the Jedi in The Clone Wars, we started work on the compad in the spring. The jedi compad is different than the clone compad. It's design is based off the Gilette communicators from Episode 1 except smaller obviously.
After we nailed down the details I did a quick model in Lightwave.
This brought up the idea that the cirlce under the doughnut light at the end was recessed and not extruded.
Once we got the shape good I did some vector drawings and printed them out to compare sizes on my gauntlets.
This helped us narrow down the size. The longer version looks closer to the show but since none of us have 3 foot forearms the shorter version looks better in real life. From this I finalized the vector drawings and sent them off for laser cutting by AMP.
Tony sent me some samples which were mainly to decided the width and depth of the scallops squiggles in the middle.
After I got the masters back I glued them together, filled the seams, and primed them.
Then they went into silicon and this was the result of the first pulls.
I painted up a set for San Diego Comicon. I'll get some pictures of the final painted versions on my armor soon. Thanks for looking!
