The Art of Alex CF

I was looking back through old threads I had started and saw that this one never did get legs. Figured I'd bump it on up to try and get this stuff noticed. I don't have any connection to it other than finding on the internet and thinking it was cool, but it seemed right up the alley of a lot of people here.

Weird stuff!

I was thinking about halfway down the page that the guy should really do some Lovecraftian stuff. That's when I ran across the Lovecraftian stuff... :)

He used to have a really creepy Cheshire Cat that had it's side split open and the insides full of teeth.
Thought I saved the pix but I can't find them.:unsure

Oh yeah man, and it's some of the best I've seen. Crazy scary!

I can't find it on his site anymore either, but I did find this article with pictures..
The Most Disgusting Thing You Will Ever Buy [NSFWish] | Nerve.com

It may, indeed, be NSFW some places just based on pure creepiness. Also, I use a couple of ad blockers so I can't speak to whether or not the site has questionable images. For that reason, I'll go ahead and put the pictures behind a spoiler too.

Art is subjective...to each his own.I like dark/morbid stuff, but this wasn't really doing it for me.I've seen allot of this before done by others.Maybe not to this extent, but it kind of plays as an "old fad"/trend.

And then there is this amazing reliquary, purportedly having belonged to none other than Charles Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll).

I hope to some day purchase one of this artist's pieces; I just can't get over the level of detail he goes into. Everything he adds in makes sense and validates some other piece. And he seems to possess the most elusive gift when it comes to this kind of thing, which is knowing when to stop.

Do yourself a favor; check out the additional pictures and read the supporting descriptive text at The Art of Alex CF» Blog Archive » Charles Dodgson and the Hidden plane

That's cool, I can definitely understand how this stuff isn't for everyone, or even for most or many, for that matter.

From a technical standpoint, I've not seen anything in this genre that approaches his quality. And as far as I can remember, his were the first works remotely like this I had ever seen when I ran across his blog a few years back.

I'm pretty comfortable saying he was the first or among the first putting this particular aesthetic out there. I'll go ahead and start the countdown to when that statement is proven drastically inaccurate :)

There's an extra dose of realism and credibility in his work that most similar stuff doesn't quite attain... I think it's the materials used, the patina applied, and as I mentioned in my last post, the fact that he knows when enough is enough. Also, the supporting text is generally well-written and researched, which adds quite a bit to the whole.
