thd9791's Yoda Lightsaber

so, I cleaned up this prop a little (a mechanical pencil actually helped darken the putty enough for the eyes, paint and sharpie ended up on the tube itself. Here we have it, my beauty shots of a slightly custom version of the original lightsaber of Yoda.

I especially like the emitter I found

The grips may be a little thick, but instead of a nut, I attached a long transistor on the back, interesting..

Hi guys,
I’ve attached a series of photos of the original unit that was modified into the Yoda Lightsaber seen in “Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary” by my friend Dr. David West Reynolds.

Hopefully, this may give you a better view of the conversion that was made.

The original unit was very easily taken apart by hand so I was surprised to hear that some were having difficulty in removing the parts. There were no special tools used to disassemble it.

Anyway, I hope these reference photos help anyone attempting to duplicate the prop.

Great contribution Ed! Thanks a lot! these pics will be very useful for me as I'm about to start a project called "The Hand of Yoda". Will show you all soon.

Great job thd9791 ... excellent ... I love that 'found' emitter too. I just doubt if Yoda could handle those thick grips ... mind you there's still room for a little improvement.

As for the pictures by ED-209 . . . thank you , thank you, thank you! Do you recall from which modelcar kit that oilpan/activator box came from originally? I know it's a long shot but since I'm in contact with the source I had to pop the question ... for y'all

Oh and by the way just a slight adjustment of that clamp a little bit forward nicely around that nutt would be needed before putting it back under that glass bell

Also fellas . . . ed-209 and Steve used a Praco Flash which is the mirror image of a No.2 Bolsey Flasgun.

hehe thanks Chaim. Yea those grips were a $0 option. If I get my hands on a real Praco, or another Bosley, I'll take what I learned here and improve on it! or..just pop these off and do some more work :lol

I did have a little green LED I was going to use but I dropped it and it bounced into the land of oz.

CD, DVD and Floppy Drives have spinning magnets that are a comparable diameter to Bolsey and Praco flashguns, just a hint ;)

Both the emitter and the oilpan were Steve's contribution to the final design of the Lightsaber. He was asked to take the designed Lightsaber home to see what he could add to it. Thanks to a healthy amount of misc model kit parts in his spare parts box those parts were added.
I doubt if even Steve remembers what model that part was originally from.

Thanks for your reply ed-209 ... indeed sofar the emitter has been identified as Lamborghini Countach front wheel from a 1/16th scale Fujimi model kit (see partsofsw.com - prequel - lightsabers - yoda) that oilpan/ activator remains a mystery . . .

Hello Ed!

Thanks so much for putting these pictures up! Very helpful, and it's so nice that you are willing to contribute to our knowledge!

I had a nagging question though - any reason there is no belt clip attachment of any kind?

Oh man, that's a really great build! By far one of my favorite lightsabers as well. It was the first one I ever put together myself. Love your take on it though, as well as the "guts" for it.

Awesome seeing the original too, with such high quality pictures. I can remember back when the Bolsey was first discovered on here as a possible base for it. As I recall there was debate whether or not the pictures in the V.D. were flipped...mirror images or not. As well as trying to figure out what the brass nus ws on the back of the emitter. Mine still has the incorrect PEM nut.

Right hand side is the Bolsey. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a Praco years ago on eBay when I had the chance. I'd love to get one and build an exact copy and have all three versions then.

Just checking out this thread again, and looking back at pics of the original yoda saber, the band around the middle and activator look as if they were painted to match... what paint am I looking at for that? Not gloss.... any ideas so I only buy the once (heh... multiple cans happens a lot)
