Ok,
I don’t know how many people have this problem but my grips kept falling off my Lightsabers. The Double Sided Sticky tape wasn’t cutting it for me, so I decided to do a test.

I tested multiple glues and adhesives and wrote a 12 page paper on this issue.

Tell me what you think, suggestions, complaints, complements, etc. :)

I hope this is paper can help others with the same problem.

That's a cool write up. My suggestion would be to copy it into this thread instead of a word doc. Not every one will have Word to view it. You might need to break it up to fit.

As a note, blast-tech grip is only about 89% accurate as it is rubber compared to the real grip material which is plastic.

That's nice and all, but the tape stuff in my experience is fine (the glue that comes on them is darn near garbage though, I use the clear 3M tape). It takes a lot to come off if you prep it right. Prep is the key and scuffing it is only one of the keys.

After you've scuffed you should clean the tube with alcohol. I've never used it myself but auto places sell adhesion promoter for trim moulding (uses the same type of double sided tape).

Tape appleals to my side that wants to keep stuff neat. No way to bork it with tapes as opposed to the glues.

yeah I've tried that, but the heat from your leg and the movement from walking always messed up the grips.

Thanks man,
I'll copy it into this forum in a bit :)

I use thin 3M body moulding tape... heat resistant, water resistant, cold resistant... able to keep the emblems and body kit on my VW for 17 years and 297,000 miles, good enough to keep grips on my graflex.

Actually the originals were rubber - cut up british mini wiper blades... ;)

to add my bit to this conversation I have found that 3M weatherstripping glue is the best for adhesion and ease of application. The only issue I have with it is that its Yellow so you need to be sure to not get any "visible" The reason it works so well si that its designed to atach rubber to metal... Weatherstripping being rubber and cars being metal and all...

Definitely NOT blades from a Mini. I had a 67 Austin Mini Cooper Radford S 1275, the blades on that are no different from any other old Rover/MG/Austin blades. Very small, not anything close to the size/shape of the things on the ANH saber.

The wiper blade theory was discounted a couple of years ago, the current prevailing theory about exactly what they were is that they are plastic T-tracks from sliding drawers, and that was somewhat confirmed by researching members here iirc.

I had heard they were the rubber used in the original mini sliding windows ? Interesting
