First, I had some serious concerns that TN was going to turn into something I'd hate as soon as Taylor welcomed them and gave his speech about how people blew it with wars and pollution etc. and how they were going to do things better - all while he's surrounding them with a military-like force watching their every move.
That's not my idea of starting over fresh, that's being guinea pigs in some military state run people farm.
So, I needed them to show me that the security was more there to keep out danger than locking their people in. I admit, I wish the teens had been doing something besides moonshine (how did they learn to do that if they were children when they came?)
But now we know, they can leave if they want to, they aren't prisoners there. And we know Taylor does actually care about the people/kids. I am SO glad he's not some bully formulaic tough and trained guy like in just about every other movie that shows a military type who looks down on civilians.
