Terra Nova?

It's not our timeline - not our earth. Alternate universe ala Sliders, only different earth and different year - 85 million years ago. It's very quickly explained in the pilot. I'm sure there will be repercussions, based on some stuff that takes place.

Im glad they're using the alternate reality theory.

Cant wait to see it.

So far it's not great. Just past halfway through. Lots of nonsense with teenagers making alcohol, and a rogue settlement. They have the worst security EVER at Terra Nova.

I'm pretty sure the security teams handguns are modified nerf nightfinders too.

I was thinking the SAME THING about the Nerf Nite Finders! I keep expecting an Avatar Na'vi to run by or attack.

Was only somewhat impressed. Looks like it has pretty high production values, but is it going to keep it for the series or just fizzle out on crappy budgets.

And I'm so sick of the cliche teenage kid who just needs to rebel against everything. The father should have just kicked the **** out of his kid already.

I agree. You never see any positive teens on tv, which given the real world isn't a shock, but you think they'd have done some weeding out of these sorts of people before putting the fate of mankind on the line. My thinking is that if they go back that far this alternate timeline they're making will advance far faster than on our earth as they'll have millions of years to evolve before hitting the date they left their native timeline. Sadly the budget is going to be the one thing that kills the show.

The visuals were amazing, it felt like watching a movie - I was pretty blown away.

The premise is fascinating with a subplot twist that has real potential. The pace was intense, but not too quick to build the characters enough to make you feel their danger.

Having watched a few pilot shows this year looking for something new to watch (still haven't found anything to replace LOST), this tops them all so far.

i thought it was kinda crappy.

suspension of belief was gone, if you can make a time machine, then you should have been able to repair pollution or at least pick a time without dinosaurs.

i think it would have been better to see the series as a live action dino riders

The writing was really poor IMHO. It was one of those shows where they feel the need to explain everything so they leave no viewer behind.

It was so easy to predict everything that it was boring... And the f/x didn't do anything for me. I remember how I felt the first time I saw Jurassic Park in the theater and it was magical despite their cgi at that time being less developed than it is now. This had none of that magic for me.

Frankly, I'd venture to say comparing this to Lost would be insulting to Lost and I'm not even a Lost fan.

NuBSG or Firefly or the Walking Dead are my ideas of intelligent storytelling... I won't fault folks for liking what they like... But this just ain't my cup of tea, at least not unless the writing gets a whole lot better, real quick, but that's just me.

Spoiler warning....

Actually, it's a time rift that only ends there in an alternate timeline. They can't control it. That's the story anyway...

There are a few compelling aspects of the show. The drawings near the waterfall. The history of the camp before the Shannon's arrived. Taylor being the first through the portal (which made me think of stargate) was an interesting idea too.

But, they pushed the compelling stuff far into the background so they could focus on the Shannon family, and a pretty cliched family dynamic. The stuff with the teenagers leaving the camp was inane and after school special stupid IMHO. And frankly, just made the security team look totally inept.

I'll give this show my regular tryout period. Lots of shows like this have development issues and some times they need a few episodes to find a solid footing creatively. I hope they do, because I'm a fan of Stephen Lang, and Jason O'Mara.

The security breech was a good thing, IMO.

First, I had some serious concerns that TN was going to turn into something I'd hate as soon as Taylor welcomed them and gave his speech about how people blew it with wars and pollution etc. and how they were going to do things better - all while he's surrounding them with a military-like force watching their every move.

That's not my idea of starting over fresh, that's being guinea pigs in some military state run people farm.

So, I needed them to show me that the security was more there to keep out danger than locking their people in. I admit, I wish the teens had been doing something besides moonshine (how did they learn to do that if they were children when they came?)

But now we know, they can leave if they want to, they aren't prisoners there. And we know Taylor does actually care about the people/kids. I am SO glad he's not some bully formulaic tough and trained guy like in just about every other movie that shows a military type who looks down on civilians.

Interesting enough, but it was a bit too much too fast. Its like they were trying to jam too many mysteries to try and slopily grab as much interest as they could.

The first episode should be about setting up the basic premise and introducing us to the characters, not hitting the ground runnning with the mytharc. They should have waited a few episodes before introducing us to the "sixers" or talking about the mysterious drawings by the waterfall and thier implications.

And I really hope that Taylor doesn't turn out to be evil. You could see it coming a mile away and it seems so cliche.

Well... I dunno. We'll see where this one goes. It could use some tweaks here and there. When's the next episode?
