Terra Nova?

I enjoyed the finale, though I have a few rants...

SPOILERS INC.



1. Military tech. It sucks. Skye shot Lucas like... 3 times, at pretty close range, with that pistol, and he had been beaten up by Daddy, yet he manages to get up and disappear quietly within a few seconds? :behave And then the whole thing with the missile launcher that can't hit squat...

2. The whole bridge thing. Oh great, you blew up the portal on the other side. But wait, they have all the technology and people, and they built the first one. Who says they can't just build another, and then where are you at?

Just bugged me. Come on people, surprise me. :rolleyes
 
Maybe they can build another one, but it'll take a lot of money (which they may not have in the future) and it will take a lot of time. Absolute worst case scenario would be it buys TN about 5 years or so to prepare for the the next wave - if they don't find an alternate wormhole or whatever it is. Plus, who's to say the explosion doesn't seal the rift?

The missile launcher, well, it looked like a missile that dispersed into a bunch of mini-explosives that just went in random directions. It's possible they didn't hit them, but like you really thought it would? :)

The other one, I agree, 3 shots, beaten to a pulp by his dad - he's not going to sneak off unheard. Unless he was grabbed by someone possibly.
 
That, and you know, you're willing to believe a rift opens in space time that allows people to go back 65 million years in time, live with dinosaurs (without hardly ever seeing any or be threatened by any), a guy can engineer the portal to go back the other direction with a tablet computer and basically nothing else, while living in the jungle without being eaten, that the small band of Terra Novan's while on the run can capture a T-Rex type creature, sedate it, stuff it in a mining ore container, and wake it on command....

Yet the missile launcher and guy being shot are the only things that bother you? :)

If you belief can be suspended for the above, the rest is well within the spectrum :)

I thought that they didn't build the portal but some scientific discovery of a rift in time/space was found and then they built the Hope Plaza and that recieving pad around those. At least thats how I understood it.

I was a bit disappointed at first with the numbers of dino attacks mostly because I was thinking of Jurassic park. But that was an island zoo where the dinos were limited to small spaces and not allowed to hunt prey naturally.

On Terra Nova the predators have their own territory which is likely very spacious and there are already plenty of natural prey that are likely much easier to hunt and go after than humans who are smarter and have their own weapons.

If you look at the way wild animals behave here and now, they avoid humans unless they are squeezed out of their own territory or if a human wanders into theirs. I don't know why it wouldn't be the same for dinos.


As for Lucas being able to design a way back, it seemed like it was a matter of calculations and theory rather than engineering trial and error. But it's made up technology, so they can do what they want.

I don't know what Hope Plaza was supposed to be, but it looks like the Atom Smasher in Switzerland to me...

I only watched the first episode and the finale, and liked what I saw, but I hear I didn't miss much in between. Hopefully they'll do better next season, if there is one.
 
The wife and I finished the last couple episodes last night. That show really picked up the last half. My only complaint(the one my wife is sick of hearing me say):

man, if they would just kill off his kids, this would be a much better show.




seriously! I'm reminded of why J, Michael Strazynski hates kids on sci fi shows.
 
They appear to be having a tad bit of difficulty deciding on whether or not the pistols fire bullets, or sonic pulses.

The psycho son was able to activate the rift from the past, so is accessing the rift dependent on the machine in the 2100s?

I think when the rifle "opens" it fires sonic pulsed, otherwise it's bullets.

He can operate the rift with a alien looking thing, which was sent from 2100s.
 
The decision on Terra Nova is just around the corner.

The Network made money and the studio made money but they acknowledeged it was weak creatively.

Translation do it cheaper Amblin and you have a greenlight otherwise......:lol
 
I've not heard anything. Someone earlier in the thread said they were promised early notification so they could have episodes ready for fall. Time's running out on that front.
 
Last I heard the news was not good.

Fox is trying to get them to do it cheap, ie move the Production stateside.

I think it will not be picked up
 
I thought it was usually cheaper to make shows/movies overseas - like Lord of the Rings?

Anyway, I hope it gets renewed. Still not getting over "V" and "Sarah Connor Chronicles" and maybe even the new "Knight Rider..."
