Terminator 2 statues at Planet Hollywood San Francisco and elsewhere

I've been trying to track down a Terminator 2 statue that once lived at the San Francisco Planet Hollywood.

Around 1996-97-98 I remember as a teen visiting Planet Hollywood San Francisco (I live in SF) and picking up raffle cards for a chance to win the Terminator 2 statue. (Arnold statue not endo) The raffle cards were on a tear off stack and I decided to take the whole stack as I left. The contest ended before I could turn in the cards and I don't think i even filled out the cards. I tossed the cards years later.

I'm certain though that I upped someones chances of winning that statue!

Over the years I've thought about the statue and just recently decided to try to track down the statue without much luck though.

I know that they were made by Stan Winston studios, using "original molds" made specifically for the Planet Hollywood restaurants.

Here is a website for Jim Charmatz, one of the guys that worked on them.

http://www.charmskool.com/T2.htm

One or two more pictures can be seen on the Stan Winston website as well.

I know that there was a T2 statue at the Amsterdam Planet Hollywood and when that restaurant was closed, the statue was sold off and now lives in a comic book store in Amsterdam.

I've emailed at least 5-6 people that worked at the Planet Hollywood in San Francisco at the said time and they didn't remember much.

I've emailed the prop guy at Planet Hollywood, Paul Hemus and haven't gotten a solid answer. Just along the lines of "We have all the statues."

I'm really interested in the statue that lived at the San Francisco location. I remember just being amazed by the statue and pressing my hands against the plexiglass trying to absorb all the infinite detail of the statue. M79 in hand with grenade sling and torn leather clothes, internal endoskeleton revealing itself, with it's red eye, softly fading on and off. There must have been thousands who passed through the doors.

I have to find out if there was a serial # on the statues, some way of tracking the statues.

Anyone know anything about the statues? Know of any in private hands?

I know a bunch of the restaurants closed, and PH has declared bankruptcy a number of times. I just want to make sure the T2 SF statue isn't in someones basement collecting dust ;)

Here are some pictures on flickr...

Thanks!

I'm just wondering, how come Arnie's look changes at each and every Planet Hollywood branch. Isn't it suppose to look all the same?saw it at Flickr...:unsure

It seems that over the years employees mess with the statues. A few are missing the grenade launcher, undress him, dress him up again, the acrylic tubes are different on various statues as well.

I don't have deep pockets but I'm ready to go broke ;)

I should make a trip to Las Vegas Planet Hollywood, I know they have one there.

Is Rob PHarchivist?, I was wondering about him, I'm kinda new just didn't want to start PMing people and I haven't done my homework on here yet.

Thanks

Yep, that be him.... He would be the man to ask about this... But I do think it would be cheaper to build it yourself... Howard aka Chewy has a great stage 5 bust and you can get casts of the chest and leg easily enough..

Hey guys...

The PH in my screen name does indirectly and informally refer to Planet Hollywood, but not in a professional sense (nor have I ever claimed any professional affiliation). What it DOES refer to my private collection of photos from the many stores.

That being disclaimed... ;)

I frankly don't have much to offer beyond what has been said. T2SF, you've done your homework, so to speak. Each PH store had a statue. And yes, they were made by the Winston crew specifically for PH. And my understanding is that the artists did take creative liberties with the statues. Not only did each one vary in style, there was also variablity in quality, at least to my eye. It was interesting to see the various poses, how the gun was held or mounted, the amount of blood, etcetera.

The SF statue, in my recollection, was not the best, and it was nearly impossible to photograph well. When I was there, It was housed fairly high up in a stairwell display case, making angles and relections a bear. I do have shots I'll post later, but they're not great; certainly not my best.

As to the whereabouts of any of the statues today, I really have no idea. Though in ten years, I've personally NEVER seen any in the aftermarket, nor in any personal collections. Though that doesn't mean that hasn't occured. The contest PHSF held is news to me. Too bad you didn't fill out those cards!

These are really bad, actually...

I have a whole battery of shots of the various statues - these shots are by far not the best.

Here's a better sample from San Diego...

I don't know but those brown belts are so fugly!!!

I wonder if Jim would consider distressing my Bates T2 jacket...hm...

Would you consider using one as inspiration to just make your own 1:1 Arnie? I would bet its possible to find parts to make one that looks 100% identical at a fraction of the cost. It would take some work to track the pieces down, but you can do it. Sure it isn't THE PH statue, but you will get over that pretty quickly when you walk past your lifesize Arnie in your living room. :lol I had the same fixation over the Sharper Image Vader that was for sale ages ago. Little did I know how much cheaper and easier it was to make my own - AND MUCH - more accurate Vader...

Yeah for sure! I know that Chewie/Howard has a Stage 5 Arnold bust mold. Just need a mannequin. Next piece is the chest piece. I know a member sculpted one on here but I think I need something more original. I can do the clothes and buy the boots no problem. Also need a leg sculpt.

I mean I could build one for under $2k easily. I'd love just to fine one for sale, or then one in private hands to check out some more. Planet Hollywood is hoarding them in Florida.
