I've always been a black suit Spider-Man fan and two years ago I threw together a cheap Venom costume to go with my brother's Spider-Man suit.

After that, I wanted to do a more defined and original take on the Symbiote suit for Spidey.
After seeing Grampsee's AMAZING Symbiote thread ( http://www.therpf.com/f78/spider-man-symbiote-suit-build-210215/ ), I knew I wanted to go in a similar direction, but with my own take.
I looked at the Spider-Man 3 suit and found this concept piece:

A couple things I love about this concept -- The organic web lines and the bluish-purple hue.

THE SUIT
I looked at dozens of Symbiote styles in the form of print files. Then I looked at the completed suits at websites like ZentaiZone. The styles range from Comic, SM3, AS1, ASM2 and Custom black suits.
Ebay ended up being my friend as I found a file that had three key things --
1) The Spider had to attach under the arms
2) I wanted muscle shading
3) I needed fine details such as honeycombs. This would make puff painting easier.

I bought the file and had a local place print it and sew it together with a detachable hood and U-Zip. It came out very snug and fit well.

(The lighting makes the suit look purple)

ADDITIONS
I bought TJack's custom TASM2 frames that are a little bigger and pointier than the normal TASM2 frames. Those should give me the look I'm going for.

For a Face Shell, I've been making my own custom shell. I started out with U-Mold from RadioShack.

I kept heating it and shaping it until I was comfortable. Then I've been filling and sanding it for the past couple of days.

This is a quick look at it with the mask on it.

(I still have some work to do.)

Updates on puff paint and dying the underside of the suit coming...

Re: (Another) Symbiote Spider-Man Build

So, in the comics, the black suit reflects as blue or purple in order to separate all of the black on the "alien costume". I think this can be a great adaptation in real life replicas as well because an all-black suit doesn't reflect enough light and ends up hiding all muscles and definition.

The good thing about these printed black suits is that when stretched, they give a purple hint.

(You can see it on my ear.)

I am testing out a way to highlight this purple hue by dying the underside (white) of the black suit.

I got tried fabric markers, but you could easily see the strokes. So that's a no-go.

I bought some purple and black fabric dye and a spray bottle from Hobby Lobby today and now I'm testing how that looks.

This is the bottom of my left foot. It's flipped inside out. You can see where I tried a few colors of marker. I sprayed the purple dye and now I'm waiting for it to dry.
Pics to follow...

Re: (Another) Symbiote Spider-Man Build

So the first two overdying tests made minimal differences.
I added more purple color to make it more concentrated, but again, it was minimal. I'm adding more purple and some black to the mix next.

Something I'm toying with here.

Puff Paint update: The Black is much for fun to apply than the white. It covers better and really gives the Symbiote feel.
I'm using the "Slick" paint, BTW.

Also, I was getting pretty anal about my inability to keep the honeycombs perfect every time, but as I was reminded, the Black suit should look/feel organic anyway. So I've decided to embrace the inconsistencies.

I'm doing custom web lines after I completely puff the suit in black. I want the lines to lay over top of the base layer and those will really give off a Symbiote feel. I can't wait to get creative with those.

I love how this guy subtly uses the web lines with black on black, but I need to be careful and make sure I stay in the Spider-Man region and not start looking like Venom.

I'm thinking more along these lines.

Re: (Another) Symbiote Spider-Man Build

Looking great so far! Can't wait to see the completed project! I might build a Symbiote suit after I've finished my Vigilante/Human Spider build. Will you be having web shooters? I saw some concept art on DeviantArt (I think) and the suit had web shooters. Either way, good luck on completing your build!

Thanks. No web shooters because the Symbiote suit should be shooting OUR webs organically. That's what those white spots on the hands are for (I think).

After SM tears off the Symbiote suit, Black Cat makes him a black suit replica because she says it's sexier (or something like that). He wears that now and again when he gets super pissed. I would assume that suit has web shooters like his normal suit.

Ah yes. I think the concept art was from Black Cat's version of the symbiote suit, that's why it had shooters.

Re: (Another) Symbiote Spider-Man Build

Glad you commented. Your suit was a huge inspiration. I saw somebody on twitter showing your suit to Marc Webb the other day.

thanks dude, yours is lookin great. As for the twitter thing... oh really? lol

Yeah. uploadfromtaptalk1404990257415.jpg
He sent it to a couple of Spider-Man blogs also. I just noticed it in passing and thought it was cool.

Re: (Another) Symbiote Spider-Man Build

Just puff painting the entire suit. About 60% finished. Mostly just arms and legs, followed by web lines remaining.
