Stuck: Superman 52 material.

I am a semi accomplished seamstress, so I'm not asking for help putting it together, but I need to find a much better, thicker material. I was hoping to find something like the material(s) from either Man of Steel or Superman Returns. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also I am new here, and I keep seeing something about getting patterns printed either on fabric or paper. I'm not sure what that's all about, but I am very interested. Also I have a link below to an image of the costume in question, and it needs to look like armor at the right angle.
