stray dog: kerberos panzer cops original mask + my collection

i not too long ago scored the ultra expensive and ultra rare official stray dog movie mask by buildup from 20 or so years ago.
its awesome to finally add it to my collection, but obviously something as rare as this, i'm not going to build it up, so i duplicated it and am working on the casting to hopefully have a wearable mask for costuming and keep the original stored safely in the box. i'm doing the same for the wonderfestival exclusive comic version mask vacuform kit by alucard from about 20 years ago, as it would be a shame to build the original. im actually sculpting a new more accurate mask for the red spectacles using the comic mask as a guide, so in the end i might not even wear the comic version mask.

so far, in my kerberos mask collection i have:
jin roh version mask (by kou tomoda)
stray dog version mask with helmet (by buidup)
comic version mask (by alucard)
stray dog version mask [inaccurate] (maker unknown, bought on ebay)
stray dog version mask [inaccurate] (nightmare armour studios)
red spectacles version mask (w.i.p. unfinnished, sculpted by me)
kai tetsurou jgsdf version helmet (w.i.p. unfinnished, sculpted by me)

oh, and my old 'made in a night' cardboard rush job jin roh mask i made for mcm expo couple years back, which i made from an empty cat food box. not very good but it did its job and people there liked it!

i also have a spanish war helmet to use with the stray dog masks and a cheap toy helmet of the same shape to use with the red spectacles mask when done.

i want to continue adding kerberos masks i dont yet have (other versions/sculpts/makers) but for now thats my collection.

couple pics to start off, more to add as time goes on.

(Edit: Oh, I misread. I thought he had a movie original prop that he cast for working copies.)

Looks great, I like your Jin-Roh collection. Great movie, great outfit. :)

I think in this instance, the use of the word "recast" is fine. He stated that he intended to use the recasts himself, not to re-sell.

oh, fiddlesticks! i didnt mean to step into a minefield, i just didnt want to ruin the original when cosplaying.....
i didnt consider selling when i was casting, just having something to wear without the fear of spending half a grand to replace if it got ruined!

thanks for the on topic compliments, i am very proud of my collection, and hope to set up a proper display room when i move to a bigger place.

in fact, does anyone have tips on making prop ballistic vests?? im trying to put together a cosplay group set, and the masks (and some emblems) are the start, but im lost for where to start a vest (for the type10 light gears)

any tips??

oh, and i'm working on the red spectacles mask right now, hope to have a master made soon before i move on to other mask designs, but im a beginner sculptor, and its all trial and error (smashed 4 helmets and working to repair 5th where im sculpting the kai tetsurou helmet, if this 5th attempt fails, i dont think i'll have the heart to try a 6th time)

any tips for sculpting???

We only care if you recast a RPF members stuff. You can screw over the original copyright holder all you want.

Great masks by the way. Many people are looking for them.

thanks, i like my collection and know how sought after these are, took me a long time to acquire them.

i dont want to screw anyone over, rpf or not, but i did notice that people have certain double standards. its ok to duplicate and share an image (e.g. the norwegian camp photo from 'the thing') but i just mention the word 'recast' and suddenly everyone is all warnning me to be careful. i apeciate the serious damage recasters on ebay etc pose, but duplication is duplication in any form, and it all depends on the situation and intention (and personal moral values) whether it is ok or not.
i didnt set out on my project with the intention of selling any recasts, so i didnt think i was doing anything wrong, but, if someone asked to buy one i wont refuse to sell i tthink. the mask is out of production by 20 years and prohibitively scarce and expensive, so i think it would be victimless if i did sell, and if the copyright owners wanted to chase me down in that case then they could. hell, look at all the kerberos masks in western collections. 98% i garuntee are unlicensed masks (like nightmare armour studios etc), and technically making your own props based on copyrighted characters is denying companies the sale of an official item, but its all different shades of grey with fair use.
i made these mask castings for me and my friends to use, so i guess the sale scenario doesnt really apply.

but anyway, all this rambling, everyone seems interested in discussing recasting (im new here, but im sure there is a topic for that already) i was hoping for more feedback on my collection, like which masks are missing, whether or not anyone else here has any, etcetc, and perhaps some tips on sculpting my own masks (im sculpting blind here, i dont have the experiance, i could really use some help)

any on topic comments???
