Hoping the Original Trilogy cognoscenti here can shed some light on a minor mystery. An instagram account @kennerboy for vintage SW toys and collectibles recently posted images of the vintage Kenner 12" Stormtrooper figure, and commented that the blaster was a "work of fiction." From the detailed photos it's obvious that the gun is no E-11, however it is an accurate representation of a Sterling SMG with some modifications, which makes it clear Kenner was working from some kind of design provided by Lucasfilm.
This made me wonder if the "Barbie-scale" Stormtrooper's blaster might have been either an early version of the E-11 prop, or another blaster type altogether, possibly used elsewhere in the trilogy in a less prominent location?
I'm posting photos here hoping someone might recognize if/where the full-scale version of this gun appeared:
