Storm-trooper armor Pepakura Q's... any A's?

Hello! So I got you here, and I have some questions... I am planning to build a Storm-trooper costume, and I am planning to use pepakura as the base for my molds. A lot of people think I should just buy armor cause it'll be cheaper and/or quicker... but that wouldn't be as much fun. I have fierfek's pdo's for the armor and helmet, and they seem to be a good base to start on, but I was hoping to get a look at dung0beetle's latest storm-trooper pdo's. He claimed he was going to be doing a very detailed pep for the armor way back in 2010, but I can't get any of his files on the net, and he hasn't responded to my pm. Is he still active, or is he off the grid?
I am already working on fierfek's ANH Hero helmet... I have a ways to go. I had to take a break, cause there are a lot of thin strips to cut out for the dome, and it is tedious, but I will have some pics up soon. If anyone reading this has done fierfek's hero helmet, I would love to hear how it went for you. when I am done with the whole thing, I am going to submit it to the 501st for approval. THAT is the real test, isn't it? Well, hope to hear from some people soon. When I get ready to post pics of the helmet, I may start a new thread for it, and chronicle the entire build. After I finish the helmet, the rest of it shouldn't take as long... the helmet is wicked-tricky, especialy if I want it to pass with the 501st.

Hi there Cadeus.

I suspect you will get some replies telling you to buy a helmet and suit, and that pepakura will never be as good, etc...

However, I agree with you that the fun is in the building as much as in the having. Dung0beetle's files are hard to come by now, and it seems that he is less active lately. Fierfek's files are a good base, as you say, but they will need quite a bit of bond'ing as they are fairly low-poly.

This morning I put the first layer of fibreglass into a stormtrooper ab/cod plate that I've pepped and will do the butt/kidney plate tomorrow. I've pepped the chest and back plates and will fibreglass those next. I've designed some shoulder bells and printed the patterns, but have yet to assemble them.

Except for the shoulders, which I designed from scratch, the ab/cod and butt/kidney are modified Dung0Beetle files, and the chest and back files are modified Fierfek meshes. Because of this, I am reluctant to pass on the files, and certainly would never sell them.

I plan on modifying the rest of the files from Dung0Beetle's meshes, primarily altering the width/height ratios and simplifying some of the more detailed parts of the mesh. I have already made vacform moulds for the arms and might even fibreglass into some styrene pulls. The legs will be more involved, especially as the calf will need to be a two-parter that closes tightly around the calf.

It's going to be probably the best part of a year before the suit is finished, and it is a real labour of love. If I wanted it for trooping, then I'd be buying one, no argument. The pep method will be at least as expensive, probably twice as much, but it's the fun of building that is the thing. I doubt my suit will ever be up to 501st standard, although I'll try to get as close as I can.

Anyway, keep at it! Happy pepping!

im also building pepakura stormtrooper armor, i would post a build thread but im taking too slow doing it. im not buying armor because 1, out of my budget, 2 its too big for me, and 3 i dont care about screen accuracy. these pep armors will never be 501st approved so dont waste your time applying, they are pretty picky about custom stuff like this. if you want to get into the 501st, buy the armor, people will tell you stay away from ebay but CustomCastingServices make spectacular armors on ebay.

fierfek's hemet is a great model, but i wouldnt suggest using his armor files EXCEPT for the hand plates, belt, and power pack thing on the right thigh. for the rest, i'm using dungbeetles files. he got them originally from a rip of one of the video games i believe, but converted them to pepakura. they have as much accuracy as your helmet, meaning its a pain! but its worth it. im going to have a LOT of bondo work to make mine as smooth as possible.

you can get the arms, legs, chest and back plates, and cod and butt pieces here. scroll to the bottom where it says armor: *edited*

but get the shoulders from here:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10765338/Stormtrooper/Stormtrooper_shoulder.pdo
these are dung's base file but modified by Pola

youll have to scale the chest, back, cod/butt pieces, and legs to your body as they are scaled quite big. with the biceps, shoulders, and dungbeetles hands, be careful because you get an inside and outside file, i only pep the outsides since its less work/material.

anything else?

Thank-you! :) And you, as well!

I am grateful for the info, and the link, but I have, unfortunately, been to that site, and when I click on the files to get them, it takes me to a site called Open Drive. could you tell me what to do from there, cause I won't join Open Drive... They want my credit card info. That shoulder bell is pretty sweet, btw. Thanks again!

Thanks, but I can't use those. It prompted me for a password, and I don't have one. But I have decided to have faith in fierfek's pdo's. Prince Neo told me they were top notch, and considering the source, that's good enough for me... besides, if I wasn't talented enough to pull it off, I wouldn't have spent so much time putting it all together in the first place! :) If I can make a Wizard of Oz Tin-Man's ax for my daughter, for Halloween, out of a piece of ply-wood; with nothing more than a sheet of sand-paper, a jig-saw and a can of spray paint, in less that 45 minutes, I can do THIS. :)

here, ive uploaded them to my personal page and you can download them from these links for sure, at least check out the detail. i'm using fierfek's thighs and shins for my build because they are slightly more accurate in size plus dungs are a SOB to scale properly and even harder pep out. ill post a thread about my build after everything is resined. im about 55% complete.

Thank-you! I don't know what is up with my PC or internet. Got them, though... now. :) You are right about being an SOB to pep. They're unfolded into lots of little strips. They seem pretty detailed, though. I can't wait to see your work.

The ab and cod are the worst part. the stock scale is about 20 inches tall so I scaled mine by measuring the width of my torso, then change the width of the model. Even if the height is to short j just remember you're going to cut it in half for flexibility like the real armor, this allows some adjustment and the belt will cover up the gap

Hi could you please help me I am building a perakura stormtropper armuor but I don't have the shoulder file, could someone please tell me were I can get this file,I have most of the armor built, this is my first pepakura and I am having a great time, any help would be great, thank you

I have a shoulder file that I created myself. If you PM me with your email, I'll send the file to you. I have tested it myself and it should be scaled very close to the real deal. The file is not locked, so you can scale it to suit if you wish. Regards.
