Does anyone have any colour reference for the STMP Vulcan shuttle / warp sled? I seem to remember a few good shots in an issue of Starlog back - oh crikey, thirty years ago.
I've tried cloudster and Kurt's site to no avail.
Karl - help me please! :$

Cheers!

Howard.

Yeah, publicity photos from 1979 showed it to be a sort of violet color. The color is ambiguous in the film due to how darkly it's lit

Round 2 models has repopped the old AMT kit... here are a pair of painted up models that they showed. The left one is in TMP colors, the right one is a hypothetical verison in Starfleet markings.

These pictures and the information regarding colour shifting really helps.

Cheers!

Wow feek61 thanks for that pic. Made me remember eating my Star Trek happy meal. That old school model work, too state the obvious, was freeking amazing.

I was just lurking over at Hobbytalk, and found this thread that contains the actual color chip chart for the studio model.

Yeah, I started that thread. The chips are outstanding stuff to have. Of course, actually GETTING that/those colors in paint form is the trick. I had hoped someone would know of a service that would that would computer color match hobby paints (like they do house paint), hopefully for a reasonable price. Still hearing crickets on that front. So hand mixing is the other choice, and I dread it. But I’ll attempt it if there is no other way.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Vulcan shuttle doing it's little flip and dock maneuver was the last effect shot completed for TMP.

Unfortunately, the picture of the chip chart doesn't show when I go to the link.
Can anyone post it here please, with (Gene's I believe?) permission?

I don't know for sure about what Round 2 recommends, but since they molded the kit plastic in something close to the original studio model color, you could practically use it as a color reference (maybe toned down with a little white).

Unfortunately, the placement guide is MIA, so I don't know which one of these is the base color and which are contrasting colors for panels, hatches, etc.

The last one shows that the color of the plastic in the reissued kit is at least close to Andy's intended color.

Next time PM me, and maybe I'll see it quicker......

.....

"I arrived at this color because I'd been thinking about the various shades of gray that dressed 99% of all other cinematic spaceships and thought that a gray ship, in the red Vulcan atmosphere, would look sort of red-gray or magenta."

I can't....... I can't take it! :cry :cry :cry

This is true attention to detail right here. Remembering the details and putting them together to fit with what you're doing even if no one will connect the dots. Darn you JJ! Darn you and your "I love planet Earth. Let's make Vulcan look more like Earth with blue skies."

:angry

For those interested, I wrote a new article for the new release of the kit for Round 2.

http://www.round2models.com/workbench/vulcan-shuttle

It's geared toward beginners but details the improvements made to the kit and has some tips and tricks.

I think we nailed the ship's colour pretty darn close considering nobody volunteered those colour chips when I could have really used them! :cry :rolleyes :lol

Many thanks Gene and Jim!
You've both been very helpful, and I appreciate it.

When I first saw the news about re-popping this kit, it gave me a big YAWN.

But those buildups at WF were excellent. And now that it's out, I've bought two (to do both versions). The improvements in the kit made all the difference.
