Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Boy, this is going to go back at least 15 years – but I truly loved playing Jedi Knight II and going onto multiplayer servers around 2002 and playing all the maps with other players from God knows where in the world. There was something almost magical about seeing other players doing amazing Jedi leaps, running up to them face-to-face and engaging in a duel. In fact, if I recall correctly, it was always on a Friday night, and the opponents were often people I had just engaged with on this forum in the weekly Friday night happy hour thread.

I both enjoy and don't enjoy this game. The holomap in BD-1 is badly done in my opinion, but an interesting idea.

There is a noticeable lag between inputting a button press, and Cal actually doing it, which only becomes really frustrating on Grandmaster level.

The amount of repetition of going back and forth to the same planets isn't enjoyable for me, though they do look great in and of themselves

So....not a "purchase brand new" game? Is this a wait until it's under $40 or maybe just see what the Black Friday price is? It interests me quite a bit, but the whole EA bit....

Yeah I would definitely say wait for Black Friday. And yeah wait til it's under $40. I never buy a game at launch since they get discounted fairly soon after. The only exception is for a collector's edition.

Since there's no multiplayer, there's no room for EA to pull their usual shenanigans but then again I wouldn't underestimate them.

Just a thought, but maybe switch your TV to "Game" mode? Sometimes TV processing can create that kind of lag.

I'm quite enjoying the game and storyline. I've noted some issue with parrying not responding when I want it to, but that could just be me.

I also like going back to explored worlds to find new things as I have greater powers. It's a great way to try out new things with less consequence.

I'm presently exploring the Excavation of Zeffo and playing at the level of Jedi Knight.

Is it worth getting? A lot of people said it feels like you're just using a baseball bat and not a lightsaber like in the Jedi Knight games.

That's something that I wished they did with Assassin's Creed Odyssey, instead, they just buffed the mobs in all of the areas that you've been to before to match your current level.

Having played it the whole way, and getting some help configuring it properly, I can say it's not like using a baseball bat. If you watch closely, you'll see a lot of realistic martial arts moves, similar to the ones Ray Park used in Episode I. You do need to progress through the game to see them, because you have to apply experience toward these moves in order to earn them, but it's very much what I expect when I play a lightsaber-focused game. IMO, they nailed that part. I think what people are confusing for "baseball bat" movement is the fact that in early game, Cal is untrained and not great at lightsaber combat, so it feels like he's chopping at enemies instead of fluid motions you'd expect of a fully-trained Jedi. But it gets a lot better toward the end, especially if you find the double-bladed lightsaber workbench (the game is winable without it, but I recommend it if you don't want to be banging your head on the wall facing the later bosses).

I highly enjoyed every moment of the game! It had a really nice balance of gameplay vs. cinema, which is what I wanted from a game that's supposed to be part of the canon. It did feel like it was on rails a couple of times, but I didn't mind that because I was in the moment and only noticed it after the awesome part was finished. It's also worth it to get the Deluxe version if you want to see the behind-the-scenes stuff. I really enjoyed watching the videos and perusing the art book. :)
