Star Wars in 3D show off thread

Then do Alien, Conan, Logan's Run. :)

Also, you'd prob. make a killing doing all the old B-movie horror posters.

Aliens (the one with Ripley holding Newt in amongst the eggs), Back to the Future II, Conan, Robocop ... I hadn't thought about Logan's Run, but I love it!

There are a few practicalities; I'd like to do some Raiders posters, but the licence is too expensive. Also, we need to sell at least 5,000 to achieve this price point. Something like Logan's Run might be too esoteric.
Universal and Hammer classics are a great idea, too!

Bostin!

Yow from "Wulverampton"!!! Pass me cowin' Bovril will ya'!

You're very local to me - great to see such talent here in England getting licences.

BTW - did you negotiate the licence yourself, or use a lawyer - if so, any recommendations on approach?

Ah, I think you mean "Wowv'ram'tun". :lol

I have been working with merchandise and licensing for 20 years, so I am quite used to it now. Most licences are represented by agents (Copyright Promotions, for instance) who should be members of LIMA (The Licensing Industry and Merchandisers Association) so there are clear guidelines. If the licence is an old one, it probably won't cost much and you choose whether to have anyone look over the agreement.

The key to bringing my technology to the public at a realistic price was partnering with GB Posters. Not only do they handle the warehousing and online ordering, but they deal in large numbers of posters covering lots of licences. They are able to negotiate a better deal for a licence than I am. However, even they couldn't get the Raiders licence down to a manageable level.

Well, I finally heard back from GBposters. They say the order was lost in the system but they have it all figured out and they were shipping soon. Can't wait to get this.

I also ordered a lenticular Harry Potter poster for my girl, is this one of yours as well, or somebody else's?

Good grief! I can't believe I haven't seen that poster before. That would be great in 3D. SHouldn't the guy in the bottom right have white wings?

Go on - make it! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. You're right, I'd never noticed the angel's missing wings.

This was a nice one to do because it was the original one-sheet used to promote the first film in the UK (and several other territories). I'd like to do a set, but there aren't posters to match the style of this one. I'm quite keen to tackle Drew Struzan's posters for the original trilogy. If so, should we do the New Hope poster too?

What Star Wars posters would people like to see?

That 3D style "C" looks beautiful Kevin...you really nailed the excitement of the poster as it was created for the one sheet. If you do a series you should really consider doing the ESB stye "A" one sheet and then the ROTJ stye "B"...all equally as gorgeous as the "C"...IMO :)

In addition, the Tenth Anniversary one sheet created by Drew is outstanding as well and would make a wonderful 3D poster!!

Mine just arrived today - dayum, this is a nice piece of work... :) consider me onboard for the next one, if it comes out looking as great as this one...

Getting one for my birthday! Wh00t! If you come out with more, I may run out of wall space!

Don't forget people, I'm still looking for suggestions for others.

Personally I'm interested in creating montages of scenes from the movies. Kind of like the Shelby Mustang poster. I like the idea of finding the perfect frame of R2 & 3PO in the corridor at the start of A New Hope, with the gun fire of the rebel blasters cutting the air al around them. There's a lot I could do with that. I quite like the idea of the top of the poster being Vader, flanked by troopers, chest up in the same corridor. Maybe try and incorporate the blockade runner and the star destroyer somehow.

I should put pencil to paper and see what I can come up with. I like the idea of taking classic sequences and making new 3D posters around them.

Anything Blade Runner would be VERY welcome too btw :)

And running with your montages idea, a horizontal 'poster' of the 'look sir, Droids' scene, Sandtroopers with ring in the foreground, Escape pod in the back, A trooper on a Dewback, a sand crawler , dual suns etc. would also be a blind buy for me.

I like your thinking, Sir. :cool

I too would like to know if this is one of yours. My wife loves Harry Potter and she would like this.

Great work on the Star Wars poster. I will be ordering one of them.

I had NOTHING to do with the Harry Potter poster. It's okay. Quite deep. The image is composed of about 4 or 5 flat planes. If I had done it, every character would be round and detailed. The whole thrust of the promotional art for this movie was the crystal ball. Missing from this poster. I can do lovely things with shiny, refractive things. It would have rocked. Maybe next time.

That said, it is as good a 3D poster as I have seen by anybody other than me!
