Star Wars Costumes for Halloween Night.

Hey guys. I am new to the forum, still trying to figure it all out. Hell still trying to find the right size image for my profile pic. Anyway, I started following this forum to get ideas and inspiration. So over the past couple of months I started making costumes for me and my family for Halloween. Thanks to many of you guys here, I was able to create my own versions of the costumes. I tried to be as close to movie accurate as possible. Trying to get all the Boushh pieces I found out was difficult...so I made up my own. My wife sewed all the costumes and I made the props, pieces and blasters and masks. I will be improving these as time goes on. But I wanted to make sure we had them ready for tonite. These are all hand made costumes, other than the Stormtrooper and his blaster, of course, and the Darth Maul horns and eyes, as well as the light sabers. I bought the tusked kit. (Godzilla kit) and the Boushh kit from Cristofer Adrian. Anyway here is a group image of me and my kids all dressed up for the event. We took some images the other night, had a blast doing it. I also took a lot of images while creating the props. Would be happy to share them if anyone is interested.

I guess I can start with my first build which was the Jawa for my daughter. after creating this one I was inspired to build another and it all started there. I used the rpf for inspiration and ideas on where to begin. When we made the robes, I used burlap, which was a mistake because its itchy. But my local fabric store did not have monk cloth, so we made due with what was available. I plan to order the right material and change it up if she decides to dress up again as this character next year. The pros of burlap is it shreds real easy and it does looks good. Once it was done, i weathered up the hood and robe using, three different paints; black, grey and a light beige color. Looked pretty earthy when it was done. I will upload some bits on the mask, lights, bandoleers and blaster tomorrow.

The next piece I tackled for the Jawa costume was the bandoleer. I ended up buying 4 of them. 2 for the Jawa and 2 for my Tusken Raider costume. Looking back now, it probably would have been cheaper to buy the tools I needed and buying the leather and making them myself. But live and learn. I only ended up using one for my daughters costume because she is so small and it looked funny with her trying to wear two of them. The weathering process I learned how to do, thanks to youtube. A few tutorials out there. The tools I used were; utility knife, black and brown shoe polish and lots of rubbing alcohol. I also picked up a bag of scrap leather from Hobby Lobby to give the bandoleers a much more used look. As if pieces had worn out or fallen off and they would just replace them with pieces found out and about. I personally really liked the way it looks.

those costumes look fantastic, I would really like to hear more about the tusken raider costume and how the jawa eyes were done.

Thanks Redwillow The Jawa eyes I was very happy with. I originally was going to use those 25 cent plastic containers that hold the toys from the gumball machines. But while out shopping with my wife, I found this halloween ghost at At Home that had these plastic ball like lights on it. So I picked one up and replaced the gumball eyes with these. They look 100 times better and the LED lights it came with are really bright and helps the mask just pop. I ordered the eBay Jawa lights they sell. But it comes with red lights. I didn't like them, I wanted yellow - so I switched out the yellow LED lights from the ghost prop, for the red Jawa lights (I picked up from eBay). I just cut them off and soldered them on.

The mask I used was a cheap plastic Avengers kids mask (since its for my daughter) I picked up at target. I just chopped it up to make it smaller. Covered up the eye holes with a very thin black material, so that she could see through it, but they couldn't see her eyes and hot glued the Jawa eyes right underneath them. I also picked up some black fur from the fabric shop to use to cover her mask (and her hands and arms). Hot glued it on. I am not a fan of the plain black covering for the face. I think the hairy one makes for a more interesting face. Since they are hairy, I like it a lot more... the light control we just slip it into her robe and she puts it in her pocket.

the white padding on the nose is just soft cotton to keep her nose from hurting. Without it, it bothered the hell out of her.

The lights just pop. Both these pics were taken with my iPhone in different lighting to show you how they stand out. One in low light, the other in a bright room.

I created the blaster from ideas I picked up from Badmojo's build.

He created a really nice build. I didn't have a lot of time to create this, because when we decided to create these costumes for Halloween, I had two and half months to create them, but I travel a lot for work so in reality it was a lot less time than that. The blaster I created with a lot of help from Lowes for the parts and pieces.

This was the gun from ROTJ that I wanted to build. I didn't have time to search out the original pieces to build an exact replica. Something I plan to do in the future. For this build I tried to create something that at least had the same feel and size of the ROTJ blaster.

Here are the pieces I came up with. Well some. For the Stock I used a 2 x 6 and hand drew the shape, then used a jig saw to cut the shape, then a power sander to shape it for me. I went through a lot of brain storming, trying to come up with ideas for what I was going to use underneath the barrel.

I finally came up with this. I bought all of the main parts from Lowes, and the rest are bits and pieces I had laying around the garage. I painted it with a dark brown and black and mixed it up with rust. I know its not movie accurate but I am very happy with how it came out.

Thx for all those pics, that is one sweet blaster. You may have inspired me to make my own! What is the overall length of it? And what size PVC pipe is that, 2"?
