Star Trek XI Rubie's Costumes - NOW ONLINE

I know the general opinion of the Rubies costumes (I share it), but I was searching their site for some info about the old klingon makeup kit (I'm running low) and found a plethora of new items. Most of them are related to the new movie, but it does appear that they've re-released the TNG uniforms

As usual, the STXI uniforms look under par. There is no delta shield pattern and only the deluxe costumes include the separate insignia badge. Their accessories look to be their own creation and don't look very accurate at all; white and orange?!

That phaser actually has a good sculpt. Would just need a paint job. The Nero pistol looks rather Klingon to me. I wouldn't be surprised if the sculpt is accurate. Rubie's has been doing a fairly nice job with their hand props lately. Can't say much for their costumes though...

Yeah, I have to agree the phaser actually looks pretty good. It seems to have sleeker lines compared to the Playmates toy, and looks more accurate. Couple coats of spray paint and they should be looking sweet.

The delta pattern on the tunics is kinda subtle, so I wonder if these Rubie's costumes have it, and it just isn't showing up in their tiny pics?

Thanks for the heads up Trekker!

The child's version actually has the delta pattern. The seams look better too. However, I haven't been able to enlarge a lot of images on Rubies site... including these.

I don't know if it's my computer or if the Grand Heritage version just isn't up yet. That'll probably have it. Yet thus far I have yet to be even mildly impressed with their GH stuff.

They actually seem to do much better with their child's stuff.

I can't see the "Grand Heritage" costume pics either, so it isn't just you. Is that supposed to be their "super deluxe" costume? I haven't really followed Rubie's costumes for quite a few years, so I'm a little out of the loop on how they distinguish their lines by quality.

I'm a little hopeful (very little, really) that between the relative simplicity of the costume, coupled with the fact that the originals aren't natural fibers either, that Rubie's might actually come up with something that looks pretty close to the mark.

My company had a booth at the recent Halloween Show down in Houston, last week.

I got to see all the Rubies, New Trek, TOS Trek and re-released TNG costumes up close and personal.

The men's uniform shirts, as well as the ladies uniform all have the delta-shield detail printed onto the costumes.

The women's costumes in particular looked great. They had booth babes wearing all the different Trek costumes on the first day of the show.

The men's costumes looked all right, with the exception that the black undershirt detail is a dickey.

The prop phaser looked better (with the exception of the plastic color) than any of the released photos shown.

The handle in particular looks lifted right off the TSFS phaser.

Any questions, let me know.

Regards,

Tom

Wow, thanks for the additional info Chang!

I email TrekMovie and they said they're talking to rubies now and are planning an article for next week.

They basically have three levels of quality: crap, polished crap, and crap polished so well you can see yourself in the shine.

Is their phaser really colored white and orange? :lol It might be nice in sculpt/design though, it's hard to tell from the tiny image.

I'm sure it is. They're recent star wars stuff was blue and orange and the Indy pistol was bright red IIRC. Like you said though, the sculpt looks good. So, a little paint should make it into a decent prop. Considering that these thing will probably run about $10 (half the price of the Playmates phaser) It looks like it's gonna be a pretty sweet deal.I'll probably pick up three or four, just to play with color schemes.

Yup :lol I want to paint on up gray and black, another in black and white, and just for kicks, one in gloss black like the assault phasers.
