Star Trek XI ALL THREE Badge-insignia Pototype prop Update Post #58

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Just a quick one here, but have you boys checked around with any of the other Trek sites to see if anyone on any of the other places might have snagged the canon command emblem? This is a time for the utmost cooperation after all. :)

Yup. Even at TrekToday where these images first surfaced. It seams no one grabed the command image.:cry

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Well, I knew others would be working on it. Didn't think they would trample on my post to sell them though....
Anyway, Prototype 2.0 in the works.
This badge was done at 3" closer to the TOS patch size. What size do we agree on for the run? I think 2" will be too small. Maybe 2.5"?

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

minor spoilers:

According to Trekmovie Kirk's Black uniform is cadet uniform. He isn't assigned a ship in the movie and has to be 'snuck' onboard the enterprise so he doesn't get a standard duty uniform.....

Sorry didn't mean to trample.

I thought this was just a information thing.

I'm not going to be selling them.

You rock Rat!

Very nicely done!!

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

I am amazed that those badge shots were actually posted on the movie site.
I remember when they changed the combadge in Generations and I struggled to scale up a fuzzy image of Picard's from a still shot.

As far as these go... I want one!!

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

The big question now is, do we try to cold cast it in aluminum (Like Cyberman heads / Doctor Who) or do we paint them like I did the prototype, or do we go gold like the pics we have?
I still see silver when I look at the released pictures, so I'm thinking silver?

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

I'm thinking silver as well.

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

You could do the run in cold cast alluminum resin and people could just paint them gold

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Out of the geek corner.... does anyone know if the other starships are going to have their own insignia? If I recall, there's a bit of fanon which explains why everyone after the TOS has the same sort of delta insignia-- meant to honor the Enterprise and her crew for their achievements. Naturally, it's because it's a hell of a lot easier to keep running just a few designs (or one, after TWoK).

Regardless... not sure how I feel about everything becoming a bit sleeker... not a fan of the Eng change the most. Ick. Nice work, and great shots of the actuals.... thanks all.

EDIT: locked in mortal combat with keyboard as always.

Not geek at all, I've been wondering the same thing. It would be cool if each ship had it's own badge. But, we'll have to wait to see I guess?

I will be working on the masters tonight. The one in the post was just to see if I could do it. That one was 3" (Going off the TOS patch) but looks a little big. 2" looks way too small, so I'm going 2.5" on it. It looks "right" to me. In the end we may be wrong, but......
Here's to Trekking onwards....

Now, does anyone know how to do cold cast aluminum?

Guess I'll be googling! :lol

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

There may be another option. Stay tuned.

And I think we should be comparing size to costume details- collar seams, etc., which look to be standard widths. Have to check the uniform forums...

Each ship with it's own? Don't think so. That's all out the window with this version.

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Yeah especially since there are doors in the hallways on the new enterprise that look like a 9 foot version of the badge....

Yes, in the original series, each starship had it's own unique insignia patch design.

In 1976, Gene Roddenberry and I had a discussion about this very topic and he did confirm that this was the plan.

As we all know, this all changed for the movie voyages.

I suspect that all ships will share the same design in the new movie, although I'd personally rather they be unique to each ship.

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Hope I'm not too late, but I was able to get the Command Emblem off of the site before they were removed. I would have posted sooner, but havent checked this topic in a while :-(

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Awesome, thank you! I was begining to wonder if anyone had gotten the symbol off of the site. Again, thanks! Here's all three of the new insignias togeather!
NewDivisionInsigniasCompleated.jpg

And...yuck...
They choped the legs off of William Ware Theiss' star. Oh well, with all the other changes to Star Trek in this film why should I have expected them to be faithful to two shapes (the Delta and Command Star) I've been drawing sence I was 4. Oh well...

As to color of the badge again, I think what were seeing here (even looking at the realy large pics of "Spock") is more of a pewter color with just a hint of pale gold to it. What this color does for the badge is to make it look good against all three division colors.
Thoughts?

John

p.s. If anyone out there did a prototype of the command badge with the smaller star but the original shape, I'll take it. ;) You know this one...

Excellent. Thank you. And just in time.

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

Thanks.
Glad I haven't started that one yet.
But should get going soon now.

Re: Star Trek XI Spock's Badge-insignia Pototype prop

You know, I wonder if these are hero badges or stunt, or extra's...hurm...
