**Up for your viewing pleasure are the two versions of what I've named the "Epidermal Regenerator".**
The first was most prominently seen in "Favourite Son" in season 3 when Kes used the device to heal Harry's abrasion on his forehead. The prop had a green beam to it and a medical cauduceus decal on the main body between two chrome detail strips.
The EMH picked up the same version of this tool to use on Danara Pel in "Lifesigns".
The second version of this prop used from Season 4 onwards had a black emitter tip section and a blue LED inside without the grey band, medical caduceus label and chrome strips. There were capsule shaped Evergreen tile sections recessed into the maim body painted blue on this version.
Seven used the device in conjuction with her Ocular Implant to asses the EMH's mobile emitter in the season four episode "One".
It was later used as a medical tool in "The Fight" in season 5.
Also in "Thirty Days" from season 5.
The version with the blue LED was machined from Delrin based on a 3D model I made using measurements from the original prop. The clear acrylic emitter piece I turned using a drill, a dremel and pieces of sandpaper of various grit. The recessed capsule shapes were cut from Evergreen plastic and shaped and painted.
This blue version has the added rib detailing in the grips near the front of the piece, matching the screenused prop.
Unfortunately even Shapeways resin prints couldn't match this level of detail which is what the second version body with the green LED is made from.
The electronics inside are adapted from a UV pen, which I replaced the LED and modified to fit inside. The end piece is a hifi knurled knob that I matched to the same type used on a screenused I bought from IAW, seen in the right hand image below.
It was never possible to see if there were capsule tile pieces in the earlier version with the grey band and label. I tried two different blue metallic colour tests for the capsule pieces, one lighter to match the grey tone on the central band and emitter and one that was more the standard medical mid-blue tone.
In the end I opted to go for the mid-tone metallic blue so that there was some consistency between the earlier and later versions.
I only stuck down the capsules in the earlier version with double sided tape so that should new photos come to light I can make a change to the colour.
The later version was clearer to see and definitely had mid-tone blue colour capsules.
I heard talk over the years that this prop was made from an old electric tootbrush but over 5 years of searching e-bay and Google images yielded nothing and I turned to a custom machined piece for the main body to satisfy my desire for this unique medical tool.
Thanks for reading.
