I’ve always loved this prop, but since I knew I didn’t have the skill to make an Aluminium version I decided to go with the 3D printed resin option.
I used the images from the IAW auctions and TNG and VOY screencaps to size this up. I also used the laser scalpel I had turned from Aluminium many years ago as a guide also, as I was given dimensions for that by the prop’s owner.
There are a couple of small things I would change but overall I’m happy with the piece.
The Aluminium parts were painted Toyota Silver No2 and the grey shroud was painted “Dove Grey” or an equivalent but it looked too light and didn’t contrast as well against the silver so I just used standard Hycote Grey primer.
The prop was seen prominently used by Dr Crusher in TNG’s season seven episode “Inheritance".
Then also in Voyager “Scorpion Part 2”.
A short clip of the prop in action with the strobing LEDs as seen in Scorpion Part 2.
My replica with the same strobing LEDs.
