Star Trek Padds ST6 & Federation TNG

Hello everyone, starting a new thread for some single layer padds, I have a mockup posted below, showing the different padds. This was just a mockup to make I was over all happy with the sizes, I based them on the sizes given and auction and match all the text and graphics to the original. The 4 Green/Blue Padds where used on TNG, The Klingon padd was use in Star Trek 6 movie. The reference photos from the auction, had a section broken, but thanks to HD (Thank God) I could match it to the screen version. It took some time, but I am happy with it. The black padd was seen in the propworx auction so that was added. The three in the bottom are from Generations, you can see them when Data and Geordi are talking about the emotion chip. I also have some behind the scenes photos that have the padd in Captain's Picards Quarters. They also maybe from the last season checking over that now.

I wanted to see who was interested in get a get of padds, I was thing of making them in sets the 4 Green/Blue, The Generation versions (Bottom Three) and the Klingon and Black padd as a set. I have made everything in Illustrator, I want to have the graphics put directly on the acrylic, no vinyl, I have to adjust some colors on the green and dark blue padd to give it a more gold effect. The background colors are there just to show off the graphics, the graphics will be put on color acrylic that matched the acrylic used on the show.

I working on pricing, will have the final total on Tuesday.

Hey guys small update, I will have some info on price today, I talking with my printer to get the elements that are gold to look gold with the correct color, so we have been back and forth on that, I am happy with what we got.

Small update, did my version of some TNG Blue/Green. I am working on my klingon version will post that over the weekend. Please post what you can on color acrylic, I will be happy to look over them and we can all agree at the ones that best match the ones seen in the original.

Phase 1 The Process of Making the Padds

I have finalize the designs, materials and found the company that will be doing the printing of the graphics. Before I go further, some background information on how the original Padd props where made and why we have moved to a different direction. The original padds used in the movie where done using the silkscreen process. This requires plates to be made for each color of the graphics, UV Paint and an uv device to cure the paint. This would require buying and matching different paints to match the screen used prop. This would also mean buying the equipment to do the silkscreening. Which would effect the final cost of the prop. I could have a company that does silkscreening do it, but that too would be costly and effect the final run price. Finally the designs that can be done with silkscreening, are limited to simple designs.

The approach I want to take is to have the graphics printed on the acrylic. I can still do the silkscreen style of the original prop, but it opens up the ability to do more complicated graphics like in my original designs. This gives you the option to buy the padd that you like. By doing it this way, I can keep the price down and still produce a padd that looks and feels like the original prop.

Phase 2 Mockup and Final Run.
The next phase is to make the mockups of the padds, before I do a final run, I want to make mockups to show everyone and get there final approval to do the final run. To do this, I will be taking preorders/downpayment for the run. I need 10 people to do a downpayment of $35 to do the mockups. The final price of the padds will be $75+shipping.

Just to make it clear. any downpayment will be refundable at the end of the mockup phase. I would need 30 days after I have gotten the 10th person to make a preorder deposit to do the mockups. I ask for the time to take into account the time needed to have items ship to the laser cutter and my printers and shipped to me. Which could be a few days. At the end of the 30 days, if the mockups are not ready you can request a refund no questions asked. If the mockups are done and for some reason you would like a refund. I can refund you as well.
