ST/CT armor - when to trim?

I have two sets of raw untrimmed CT armor sitting in a box, waiting to be finished (one Cody, one Rex). I could do it now, but honestly, I could stand to lose about 30 pounds before I will look good in the costume.

I am not sure how forgiving these armor pieces are with changes in physique. Can I trim/finish them now, or should I wait until I'm back to "fighting weight"? I don't want to have to trim twice.
