Spirit's Halloween Store Stuff (a place for potential prop replicas)

Before I begin, I decided to post this here, as it is a potential spot for people to pick up possible bases for replica props and other misc. decor for their prop rooms. If this is the incorrect forum for it, the moderators have the right to transfer the post to the correct forum.

Today, I had some time to run around. I decided to check out one of the nearby Spirit Halloween stores opened in the area. For those who are unfamiliar with the stores, basically, they are a seasonal store set up to sell costumes, makeup and a wide variety of Halloween decor. They open in September and close after Halloween. I went into one of the ones in my area to look at their makeup kits, to see if there was anything that I could possible use to expand my makeup kit (which I received from my Makeup in Motion Picture class).

Well, I decided to go ahead and look around at the rest of the items in the store, coming across a lot of stuff. Amongst them, I came across a 1:1 scale Michael Myers from Rob Zombie's Halloween. Here's a couple of pictures of them. Before I begin, I apologize for the quality of the pictures, as the camera in my phone is not great (I do have plans on getting a better phone soon).

When you press the button, the Halloween theme plays. Also, you can hear him breathing too. His head turns back and forth, as well as his eyes. The arm with the knife goes up and down occasionally.

Another thing I found looks like a potential prop replica mod to come. Now, everyone knows "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and Freddy's glove. Well, I found this one for $9.99, made of cheap and rather flexible plastic. I'm sure everyone knows this one as, each year, it is always found in a variety of stores:

However, I was surprised to find the next item (which is the item I was making mention of as a potential prop replica mod). By paying an additional $10 ($19.99), you can get this baby:

This one, in comparison to the previous mentioned item, appears to be made with a lot more stronger plastic, and has a "chrome" finish to the blades and the finger pieces. So, if you happen to know of a Spirit Halloween Store near by, go in and check, as you may be able to find this baby and use it to add a Freddy Krueger glove to your replica prop collection (if not already).

Also, when I was inside the store, I found several other items, including a Latex copy of the Joker's "Bozo" clown mask (honestly, I kinda wish it was a lot thicker, as it was thin and rather flimsy). I did find a Batman utility belt from "Batman Begins" for $12.99 in adult size. I also found the Don Post version of the Michael Myers from the original "Halloween" and a Spirit Company version of the Michael Myers mask from Rob Zombie's remake. I also found an el-cheapo Guy Fawkes mask from "V for Vendetta" for $7.99 (which definitely needed to be rather thicker as well), some "Star Wars" costumes (including a small section with light sabers), also an el-cheapo Hannibal Lector protective mask from "Silence of the Lambs" (we all know which one).

So, I hope that for those who are lucky enough to live near one of these seasonal stores are able to go and check them out. Trust me, it's a great place for potential prop replicas that can be created from modifying these items.

I don't know of any retail item that has ever stood up to the strict standards of RPF heads or serious prop collectors in general.
Sure, some items can me modified to be more accurate, but really, if you want a Freddy glove as a collector's piece, there are plenty of movie-accurate options available online.
There is nothing wrong with retail items as you mentioned above, not at all - but for me, I'm a real stickler for authenticity and often find that what you find in a store will never compare to what you find on the black market...

I was surprised to see stormtropper armor at a location in Richmond Virginia. Some kind of deluxe outfit. Normally $300, on sale for $150.

eh'...It's Spencer's. It's all good-fun kid's crap.

Hardly main forum RPF fodder, though.

I just figured it'd be a good source for budding prop replica makers who want to attempt modifying existing stuff.

I love the idea of this thread. I've often wondered what commercially available items, if not completely screen accurate, can be modified and improved to be screen accurate.
For example, my local costume shop has a $50 metal Freddy glove that looks relatively nice. And a set of $30 ruby slippers. And a rather crappy foam Right Hand of Doom. And a V for Vendetta Guy Fawkes mask. And several cheap fedoras that may look good with my Rorschach mask or my Golden Age Sandman mask. I often wonder how screen/page accurate they are, and what I can do to make them look great.
I mean, it's really great if you have a vacuform machine or a metal lathe or an elaborate workshop or a few grand to drop on a replica. Personally, I have paint, a dremel an imagination and some free time and that's about it. So taking something that already exists and making it look better is right up my alley.

Theres nothing wrong with this thread at all...I feel it's VERY appropriate and I myself wander through there looking for props and things to mod.
I bought some cool gun with a blade on the handle that I thought could use a paintjob and a little work...and would look great with my other movie guns.

Props is props...I don't think they ALL have to be screen accurate...or even MOVIE props to qualify as a viable item for this forum.

CB 2001 is absolutely right...there IS a lot in these stores to be used and converted and collected.

Theres a pic of a screen accurate item posted in the 5th pic...
GHOST FACE!!!

Which I myself bought this year...

People bought the phaser and communicator toys from the last Star Trek movie and either left them "as-is" or modded them.

Nothing wrong with the idea behind this thread.:cool

Theres a deluxe metal, and plastic, Freddy glove. Rubies makes 2 versions. The plastic one would be good with a new glove, and a repaint. I had one for my Fred costume so I could actually wear it outside.

I wouldn't dare take my real metal glove outside. The artist that made it had really sharp points on the blades (even though there was no edge on the blades). My hand was at just the right height to take a kids eye out. I'd rather not mame children if at all possible.

I have found quite a bit at the Halloween Express and Spirit stores prop wise. I just wait till the day after Halloween and go shopping at 50% off. :love

I am not impressed with Spirit's selection of props, particularly weapons. I found Party City to have a much better selection of weapons.

The Party City around here never has what I'm looking for. I think this is the first year I've seen a Spirit store nearby. In the past, there have been seasonal Halloween stores at the mall, but I don't think they were run by the same company. I'll definitely have to check it out.
