My first post on the costume forums.
I was always a big fan of the art design for Space:1999, I felt the sets, model work, and costuming was first rate for that era. The uniforms were created in the first year by Rudi Genreich, and were rather minimalist. For the second year the art designer Ketih Wilson took the basic uniform and decked it out with new patches, ID badges, colored collars, and skirts for the women. There were also new jackets which were worn by some characters (mostly male).
I first made this costume a few years back (I won't mention which Bush was president) but recently went back to it and did a big upgrade.
I basically adapted a basic turtleneck pattern for the tunic. The pants were made by buying some cheap dress slacks at a Goodwill store, ripping them apart and using the pieces as a pattern. Getting a base fabric that was a good approximation for the color was a pain. The original costume was a light beige that was washed out by the studio lights to look on film as a very light gray or even occasionally a pale whitish-yellow. I found a light brown-beige that came somewhat close and bought a few yards.
Commlock prop on the belt was a complete scratch build from sheet plastic. The stun gun was a child's toy squirt gun from the 1970s, which was (for that era) a reasonably good approximation of the size and shape of the prop. I had to do a lot of reshaping of the hand grip and redid a lot of the details (including making a working trigger).
The base jacket was a nylon-cotton exercise jacket I found at a thrift shop. I then added all the cream colored highlights, new collar, and some patches I bought from some online venders.
