Sony's Morbius the Living Vampire

I really hope they have in his full on vampire mode. Definitely one if my favs. Let’s see the creepy nose!

If it's not in the main MCU film universe, it's always going to be a hard pass for me. It cracks me up how they list Spider-man Homecoming and Far From Home as "from the studio that brought you" when those movies wouldn't be half as good if MARVEL/Disney didn't have a ton of influence on them.

Agreed, Sony wouldn't have had the recent success with Spider-man if it hadn't been for the assistance of the Marvel creative team.

Not really sure what to make of this Morbius film. Vampires aren't generally a genre of film I gravitate towards, I find them very repetitive and this being essentially a vampire film I can't say I'm all that interested.
Probably a pass, this maybe a Sunday afternoon Netflix film for me, rather than a trip to the cinema.

I grew up reading Spider-Man comics in the 70's when Morbius was a pretty popular character. I remember liking the character quite a bit as he was an anti-hero. Marvel was pretty obsessed with vampire characters at the time, what with him, Dracula and Blade.

There are hints that this movie might (technically) be set in the MCU even if we never see Morbius in an actual Disney/Marvel MCU movie. There's a poster in one scene showing Spider-Man with murderer painted over it and then there's Michael Keaton who's (presumably) in it as The Vulture.

It's been pointed out online that the poster of Spidey with 'MURDERER' tagged on it, is the Raimi suit, & the image is from the PS4 Spider-Man game.

Lots of speculation on this being the live action intro to the Spider-Verse.

I'm just hoping they double down with a Blade cameo in the credits.

What if Tom Holland's Spider-Man is able to cross over into this universe frim the MCU universe?

Yes!! I loved that poster easteregg!

Really not bothered with Morbius. I've never been a Vampires fan and Sony's antics in the past with how they've handled sharing Spiderman with the MCU have left me cold to any of their films, except the directly connected Tom Holland Spiderman films.
I passed on the two Venom films, I'll pass on Morbius.

Pretend for a moment that you had no idea this film was in any way attached to the Marvel universe. Doing that makes it look like a pretty uninteresting Dracula reboot where he is some tragic hero. Dracula Untold tried it and now it’s happening again.

It is rather odd that they chose to go with Morbius for their next non-NCU Spider-Man movie, granted they did make two Venom movies but I'd argue that Venom has a certain amount of recognition with the general public being something of a fan favorite for some time now. But Morbius, he's kind of an obscure character that nobody outside of long time Spidey comics fans would recognize. I don't think that he;s that widely recognized character and he doesn't have action figures of him everywhere like Venom does to make him at least recognizable to the non-Comic book reading people out there.

Welp. That sure was a movie.

Spoiler free review:

It was super predictable, even as someone who barely knew anything about Morbius as a comic character. The fight scenes were largely incomprehensible, mostly due to the abundance of CGI flotsam, but the transitions between CGI Morbius and pretty Jared were done very well imo. All that said, it wasn't terrible, but it was thoroughly mediocre. There is some MCU tie in stuff that got sprinkled into the mid credits, but I don't think it makes much sense.

Solid C-

May end up adding to the home collection at some point, but it's not going to be a must watch again any time soon.

Yeah, went to see it over the weekend with the family. The wife and I were unimpressed. As already mentioned, the story was SO predictable and underwhelming. Without getting too much into spoilers, I found that his "transformations" were inconsistent. I cant believe the family voted to go see this rather than The Batman! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't terrible but I don't have much desire to view it again. And both stingers were dull and didn't really add much to the story.
On the other hand, my ten year old LOVED it.

I enjoyed the Movie…. The confusing part was the ending credits… was it due to the Dr Strange and Spiderman tear in the Universe, I feel so… we’ll see….
