My wife and I are celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary on the Sunday Celebration Europe falls on (we had a Star Wars themed wedding in 2010 with most of the guests turning up in costume) so when it was announced we both knew we wanted to go in costume as a pair. We were brain storming ideas for months but all I knew was that as it's my first Celebration I didn't want to struggle with visibility by wearing a helmet. She's really in to her 50's inspired fashion so we eventually settled on a 50's style dress for her with a Star Wars twist and a greasy biker for me.
I'd been toying with the idea of doing a S.O.A x Star Wars costume for a while. I bought a leather vest a while back with the original plan being to use it with the helmet, breather, gloves, boots and gaffi from my Tusken Raider but the first test fit didn't look right and it's impossible to see out of so the idea went on the back burner. When we came up with the 50's idea it made me think what would your average speeder bike riding Scout Trooper do on his day off. I've already got a modded Rubies scout helmet so I was half way there to begin with!
First thing I've tackled is the vest. I wanted to have the patches look as realistic as possible and with limited drawing abilities I figured using a pen or paint to freehand them on to fabric would look garbage. I designed the rocker, front and Death Star II patches on the computer, found an angel wings vector and had already downloaded the centre artwork (no idea who the creator is unfortunately). The rocker patches were an absolute nightmare to get looking somewhere close to right but I got there in the end. I transferred the images on to tshirt printing paper, on to denim and glued them to the jacket.

Getting in to character.....

Best bit of any costume is weathering it! I wanted this to look worn and used but not toally knackered so I went with a combination of dirt, stones and sandpaper on the patches and then super fine sandpaper on the jacket itself. I also rubbed some dust and dirt in to make it look like it had been worn whilst screaming around the woods and desert for years.

Got a few accessories to add and the lid to finish and that's me sorted. I'll take some pics of the full test fit later and upload them on here. Then I can get started on the wife's outfit!
Let me know what you think!
