I was dusting my stuff today and noticed some kind of black good that had the consistency of model paint that sat out for about 20 minutes. If you can't tell in the picture it ran all around that area of the saber. It almost looks like something dripped on that big spot and ran around the saber. I thought maybe it was some kind of adhesive that Larbel used on the O saber, but there's no gap where it could leak. I have it in a double stand with a RE ANH Obi Wan (older version from raffle way back) so I think maybe something came off of it. Any ideas? Does Aluminum black "leak"? I do have halogen lights in the case, but they are never on long enough to melt anything.

Maybe an o-ring melted? Did you check above you to see if anything dripped on it? I know stupid, but could be that simple. lol.

I'm no expert, but unless that singular point was resting against a heat source, I can't imagine an O-ring would melt right there (although half of me wants to say it did, but if the O-ring melted it would show, no? Is the ring OK under the spot?). Certainly looks like a drip, considering there seems to be a smaller spot lower down. A head scratcher.

I really cant imagine an O-ring just melting if you didnt have the lights on for too long. And unless the aluminum had some really bad paint, it shouldnt drip, especially if it's been around for a while.

If you clean it off, would it come back?

I once had a GI-joe with a black rubber wet suit that literally melted and dripped off his body from being in the open with NO heat source around it.

I noticed a big black spot undernieth him on the shelf one day and I picked him up to find parts of the suit a dripping gooy mess.

So yes, rubber can do that if the conditions are right as that looks like what my Gi Joe's wet suit did.

I thought about that being an o-ring, but I don't remember an o-ring being on that part of the saber. I did run my hand around the RE ANH Obi which sits right above it, but nothing came off of it. I can't imagine something like that dripping off of it and not leaving any trace behind. Weird.

BTW, it did come off with acetone based nail polish remover.

Really strange, it sure does look like a drip, not it actually leaking.
Either way my recomendation is to just give it to me, get it out of your house before the sickness spreads to your other sabers. :)

I had that happen with the little rubber pads that you put on the backs of picture frames to keep them from hitting the wall. Apparently, one of them just sublimated, for lack of better word, and dripped down the wall, leaving a terrible brown "blood trail". Odd, since the pad itself was clear.

It's the O-ring. That happened to mine too. I don't know how it melted, but it did. :unsure

That is freakin weird. I thought maybe my ANH Obi saber (above that one in the display) was making some kind of statement on the Prequels... :lol ;)
