So hey guys,

A couple weeks ago, I decided to make a Link cosplay for Comic Con in March. (Skyward Sword version.) But, I cant make the actually clothing yet because I'm starting to work out tomorrow. So I decided to make the props until then, starting with the Hylian Shield. Then Master Sword.

Here's the Hylian Shield reference Hylian Shield.png

Along with my template sketch on some poster board (I sketch the details on smaller poster board later.)

And the trim templates.

After making the templates as exact as I could, I traced it out on two sheets of EVA Foam (Interlocking foam mats, Bought a 2ftx2ft pack of 4 at Lowes for 20 dollars)
Once, it was traced, I cut it out using a ruler and a snap blade knife, unfortunately I didn't take a picture of this step. But you get the idea. I repeated this process with the trimming. Flipping the templates for the opposite side.

After I cut out all the pieces, I traced where the trim needed to go on the main body, then spreading some contact cement I bought for about 5 dollars. If you haven't used contact cement before, the one I bought you need to put just a little bit on both pieces of whatever you're attaching together, just enough to lightly cover it. Next wait for about 15-20 minutes for it to get really tacky, and carefully put the pieces in place. The pieces will be near impossible to move after this so be careful. But still needs to cure for a day or so.

The outcome was this:

After this, I drew a template for the triforce. (triangle piece) I just made a equilateral triangle 2 inches long on each side. And traced it on the foam 3 times, repeating the Contact Cement process.

What I got was this

My job after this was to give the shield a natural curve, using a heat gun. (Roughly 20 bucks, but I had it on hand.) Using the heat gun, I applied heat all over the shield, and curved it with my hands to my liking. Here's a idea of the curve.

The last thing I've done as of Halloween night, I halfway applied bondo to the edge of the shield and the trimming. I'm using the All Purpose Bondo Putty I got from lowes, roughly 11 dollars. And I need to finish applying the bondo today or tomorrow. Heres that.

So this is my main progress as of right now. There's a few other things I've done, but ill share in my next post. But overall, I love how its turning out so far. So much easier then making it out of wood. I'd appreciate any help I could get. Any suggestions. As this is my first serious project. Thanks guys! Enjoy!
