Silicone sticking to resin,why?

I'm trying to mold a small resin piece with very little detail and the silicone sticks like glue.

Any thoughts on why?

Did you use a release agent??? Try rubbing vasoline into the silicone prior to putting the resin in.

I have a resin piece that I want to copy. I set it up and poured the silicone over it and it set up. When I went to remove the resin piece it was stuck. I had to destroy the silicone to get the original out.

Was it a 2 part mold or a 1 piece block mold? Sometimes with a small part in a one piece mold you need to break the surface tension to get the cast part to release. What are you molding? Are there any serious undercuts?

You might want to spray it will one of Smooth-On's release agents before you mold it in the silicone. It will help relieve the surface tension as well.

wash the piece it may have some silicone residue on the surface silicone will only stick to silicone

This sounds like the most plausible problem.

I've poured hundreds of silicone molds over the years and have NEVER used any kind of release for any of it. The only thing it has ever sticked to was other silicone. That must be it.
