Shirley Temple died last night in her home surrounded by family, she was 85.

I fell in love with her the first time I saw her at a very early age and still adore all of her movies.

I am truly saddened by this. She was absolutely adorable when young, and then she blossomed into a beautiful woman in her late teens before retiring from acting. Some of my favorite movies from back in the day :(

This is sad. She was incredibly talented & entertaining at a very young age, & not to mention, hella-cute.

Then I saw her in a Cary Grant movie called 'The Bachelor and the Bobby-soxer', & I was like: whoa. :love

Glad she was not among the masses of child-actors whose lives self-destructed. RIP.

Love that film.

She's also in the old John Ford/John Wayne Western Fort Apache. Definitely worth seeing. Great flik.

She did good things with her life after leaving Hollywood. Props to her.

85? That's a pretty good run! She did alright for herself.

I dont think I have ever seen one of her movies. I mean, I've seen pieces, but never the whole movie. She hasn't been in the news in decades. I think she led a quiet life.

Didn't she turn out to be gorgeous? She was leading lady material as far as looks, but I can't blame her for stepping away.

Yes, she served several presidents as embassadors to foreign countries and ran for Congress.

Wow, her death really marks an end to a golden era! She was such a talented, adorable and modest little girl and woman. Someone as truly gifted as she was, with as much fame and notoriety as she had in her day, was still able to lead an honorable and productive life with dignity and charm. Who can you say that about nowadays? She was one-of-a-kind! I really admired her and loved her in so many films; my favorite is still Heidi.

I'm so sad to see her go!

I heard this on the radio today. Hard to believe she was five years younger than my mom, who died two years ago. :unsure

Yes she was very attractive. However her box office draw plummeted and instead of pushing it or trying to become something she wasn't she chose to retire. Good for her I say. :thumbsup

She was Henry Fonda's daughter in "Fort Apache" (John Ford, 1948) with John Wayne...yes, gorgeous but the American public didn't quite like the new Shirley Temple and didn't know what to do with a grown woman now on screen.

Because she taught Bill "Bojangles" Robinson a step or two! :D

Evidentially it seems a few of you did not know her name she used for over 50 years.

Or the fact that she was into politics and was an Ambassador to a few Countries.

Why was she Black America's sweetheart?:D

See, this is why commas are important.
