Sherlock Season 3

Two more seasons sounds great... but what does that really mean? Two lots of three episodes? Please, Moffat, if you want to give the fans more Sherlock, then can we at least have proper length seasons? Let someone else run Who, and you and Gatis can work on giving us something that isn't so short and rushed.

yep, 6 episodes total. i actually really like the 3 episode runs, its like a yearly mini series to look forward to, and with them being around 90 mins each, they're like full movies

Rushed? Two years between each season is rushed?

No, but trying to fit the whole "Sherlock's back from the dead - Watson is annoyed, hits him, forgives him - they have enough cases together for Sherlock to have anecdotes - enough time passes for the Mrs to get used to Sherlock and for him to realise they've become parental figures to him" in the space between episodes 1 and 2.... That's what is rushed.
Could we not have had at least one case before the wedding episode to show that they'd reconciled over the whole "You made me think you were dead!" thing, and got back into the awkward bromance dynamic they had before?

Okay, I feel dumb! I was totally thinking production time. Really got to start reading these threads more carefully.

Mary's real name initials are a nice reference to The Sign of Four. :thumbsup
Glad I wasn't the only one that caught that. Say, that's a real... treasure you've got there, John! It's been a while since I've read the book, but I do have one of the movie versions as well.

It's actually Gatiss that runs Sherlock, not Moffat. Timing is the reason the series aren't longer. The main actors are incredibly busy with other stuff.

Also, I think the reason the show works so well is the format. If they did longer series', they'd have to cut the running times on the episodes. Budget is a large part of it. Most shows run 40-45 minutes, so a series of Sherlock is actually 6 episodes worth of running time. Not that bad really, and it's enough to tell a story and character within a short run. And for a British show, 13 episodes is actually a long series, 3-6 is more the norm.

Great episode, nice plot. Felt a little to rushed to me, left some plot holes. Did anyone see the two references to Skyfall and the Martin Freeman references?

@ Clarkson, Mi:

in case no one has said it, Sherlock is on PBS, Sunday nights at 10.
should be easy to find.

The Abominable Bride. Wow. What an episode.

Story wise, it was quality, as expected from Gatiss and Moffat, with loads of nods to Conan Doyle's literary Holmes. All in all, it was a nice episode to bridge the Season 3 finale and the upcoming Season 4. The only downside is that we have to wait a whole year for the next episode.

My favorite scene? The Victorian-style mind palace browsing scene. :p

Definitely a great episode. You can tell that they were having fun with it, while they had the chance. Glad it's a one off, though. They'd ruin it if they tried that again too soon.

Best scene for me I think is the "sign language". So well acted.

For anyone interested in the Victorian-era decor in The Abominable Bride episode, Sherlock's lodgings features a Victorian painting titled All is Vanity by Charles Allan Gilbert. image.jpeg

This appears to be a nod to the John Pinkerton skull painting the modern Holmes possesses....

PBS aired it around Jan 1. Then it played in some select movie theatres for two nights only on Jan 4th and 5th. PBS is having an encore showing (at least where I live) Sunday night, Jan 10. That said, I streamed it from an online source. I thought it was brilliant.

Watched it tonight on PBS. Beautiful! It was a fun diversion made more interesting when we learn it was a Sherlock trip to figure out how Moriarty could have possibly survived. Too bad we have to wait till 2017 to see more. Is there any other series that has fewer episodes spread out over this length of time? Season 1, 3 episodes from July-August 2010. Season 2, 3 episodes January 2012. Season 3, 3 episodes January 2014. 1 special episode January 2016. Season 4, possibly 3 episodes January 2017.

And, I love them, but, only 10 episodes so far in 7 years.
