Shawshank Redemption?

Great movie (just watched it recently for the first time). Not very "prop rich".

But the rock hammer, hidden in the Bible - that may be an interesting item.

Curious if anyone has sourced out the original hammer and Bible version used...

A quick pic for reference. (I have hammer pics that I will have to dig up).

There was also a copy of the greeting card that was seen later in the film. And I think someone identified the poster that was covering his escape tunnel and there was a company still selling copies of it.

Cool pic, Montegar...

Ya know - I suppose that is a slight plot hole - would they have had access to tools sharp enough to cut such clean lines in the book?

I have the correct bible, as do a few other members here (I'm fairly certain Kurtyboy has one, maybe ssdesigner?). They're hard to come by but by no means impossible. The toughest part is that there are several variations on the bible, with metallic or red surfacing on the sides of the pages, "Red Letter" versions with "the words of ****** in Red," etc. I can look up the publisher information when I get home if you'd like, if no one else beats me to it. Fun prop, great film!

I don't understand how these are hard to come by.

Most Bibles come with Red lettering for ******'s words, and most come with silver or gold edging.

I can tell that the Bible in the screen grab is a King James Version, with soft leather binding. I also imagine it's most likely made by Zondervan or Tyndale.

Most of the main characters, especially Andy had a lot of freedom throughout the movie, so I imagine getting something to cut the Bible out would have been pretty easy.

That's the thing, you might find a listing for one from the right printing from the right publisher, but when you receive it you find that it's a Red Letter or gold-leafed version. The correct version is a kind of no-frills version. Like I said, not impossible by any means but it's harder to find this no-frills version than one might think. Like you said, most bibles come with red lettering or silver/gold edging. You can definitely get 'em though; I didn't mean to imply otherwise. People even list them here in the junkyard once a year or so. If it's a prop you're interested in, keep an eye out wherever you go and you'll get one eventually.

i had a correct version that someone cutout already... but i wanted one that wasnt cut, so i sold it. ive not been able to find one since. :(

I have the bible. Would like to get the hammer but couldn't find it.

There are two different hammers by the way. There's the one we see Andy use, but then at the end of the movie in the newspaper photo the police are holding up a different hammer.

I'm heading out the door, so I apologize for this being so short....but Doug is 100% correct, the CORRECT Bible is NOT an easy one to find. It's a 1944 KJV, no frills, and it has to have a BLACK page marker. I've not seen a 100% accurate version yet. I have one that is VERY close, with the rock hammer all cut out. Let me know if you'd like pictures.

As far as the props go, there are a LOT of cool little props from the film if you really liked it and want to hunt (that's what it's all about, right? :) )

As mentioned, the postcard, the metal tin (and it's insides) the beer bottles.....I'm going to find that compass that Red buys next, it IS military, from that era, just need to narrow that down. :)

Here are some pics of the hammer, and I also noticed that the Bible bookmark sash is purple in one of the scenes but the one in the cutout Bible is black (look at the pic that I posted on page one of this thread).
