wow... those look REALLY good.
Did you make those or buy them? (I'm interested because my wife wants me to make a whip for her nephew but I don't want anything he could cause too much chaos with... speaking of which, how do these compare to leather ones?)

Yeah I made 'em for a couple of guys over at Club Obi Wan...
As far as comparison with leather...they crack like rifles and are almost as accurate. A little bit lighter in weight but not much. They also require no care and are weather proof.
They are however just as chaos causing I'm afraid, and will peel the flesh from your bones.
Definately tools not toys.

;) gotcha... thanks for the fast reply..
Honestly I'm EXTREMELY apprehensive about giving a whip, even the cheapo Hasbro one, to this kid.. he has a couple of those rubies lightsabers and he swings them wildly every time he picks them up.. usually toward people. I don't want him to hurt anyone (not even himself....)

On a similar note however, would you happen to have (or know of) any tutorials online for making these? might be nice to have one of my own :D

They are NOT for sale...
I recieved a pm asking if I sell them.
My response was and is 88 days and counting.

As far as making your own I am happy to help there as well...give me a sec and I'll post some links.

While not a "bullwhip" the plaiting technique and loading (while a bit light for my taste) is sound.

Very similar to David morgan...uses hides but easily modified for nylon.
Nylon doesn't taper. So taper is achieved through core construction and dropping strands.

A couple of books of interest
Whips and Whip Making- By David Morgan Decribes in detail #455 Indy whip.
Mostly historical though.

How to make Whips- Edwards. Must have for the beginner.

And Finally Braiding Fine Leather-also by morgan. Not much on whips but good info just the same.
Any specific Q's Dont hesitate to ask.

NICE!! I've been wanting to try and make one out of paracord for the longest time.

Thanks for the links!

The bullwhips look great, and thanks for the informative links! Now if I only had the patience to build one. :) How long do they take?

Oh trust me a mod wanna be I'm not. But, I agree. It was my impression these were for sale. My apologies. I'm off to edit...

THANK YOU!!! I'm going to have to try my hand at making some of these, well, one for starters and once I get the hang of it... :D
I'll probably start small and go from there.

For those of you interested in making your own whips...
I can do a tutorial for the nylon whips...it'll take about a week as I need to get caught up on a couple of things. Or even an on board project if you like.
For first whips I would suggest a 4 foot snakewhip . (A short bullwhip with out the rigid handle), or the little more difficult 6 ft bullwhip. If you are interested post here.
Once you have the materials we could build them over a weekend.
Core on Fri, belly on Sat, overlay on sun.
By monday you'll be crackin'.
