That's the claim: Biodegradable. Have you seen old filament prints that have begun to unravel? That's the purpose of plant based materials.

It takes decades for PLA to degrade. I have plant pots I printed years ago, that have been sitting outside in the sun, rain, and snow, and they still look like the day they were printed.

At least 80 years according to experts.

If someone wants to print a model ship hull out of PLA, and assuming it's looked after with even the smallest amount of effort, it will outlive them.
