Scratchbuilt Correllian Blockade Runner

Hi all, after a lot of positive reception to my scratchbuilt Nebulon-B Frigate, I wanted to show my first true scratchbuild I made during May 2021: a rendition of a blockade runner/Corellian Corvette. Similar to my Nebulon-B, this ship was made using pvc pipe, foam, some styrene sheets, cork, soda bottle lids, other plastic bits, and a few kit pieces from the Bandai U-wing kit. This ship is about a foot long, and is roughly to scale with my Nebulon-B which measures around 3.5 feet long. On this post I will also post some WIP pictures of two hammerhead corvettes I am making in the same scale as my other scratchbuilds. I will also include a few more pictures of my Nebulon-B frigate. All of these ships will eventually serve as escort to the massive Mon Cal cruiser I am hoping to build slowly over the next year or so.

I’d like to see some original designs too!

Many greeblers go for other kits…us paupers are more prone to go with found-plastics like bottles, pens, etc.

Good effort once again! As for the head, I would've used plastic drinking cup (sharper look). Your local Dollar Store has a lot of those for a cheap price. At Easter, I always buy a bunch of plastic eggs and plastic wine glasses. Great parts for spaceships

Thank you! I thought about using plastic cups for the head, but was unable to find some at such a small size (around the size of a thimble). I'm definitely going to use some easter eggs for the blister on my Mon Calamari ship. I used easter eggs for the nose of my Nebulon. The wine glasses is a good idea too!

Thanks, I've got a couple original designs I'll have to show. Right now I'm trying to build my childhood dream of a fleshed out rebel fleet! Ideally I could use more kit parts, but I don't yet have a huge stash of extra sprues and I haven't tried casting greebles yet..like you said, I'm content to use odd bits of plastic I find

If that's a problem (small scale) you should explore doll house's furniture or train sets also

That is a great idea! I didn't even think about that. Plastic spoons might just fit the bill for some of the blisters. I'm planning on a variety of about 6-7 different sizes of blisters.

I’m also a card modeler, and one of the things we use is cereal box card board. Super cheap, just keep the boxes, you can do anything with this stuff.

Also keep in mind that while some plastics are difficult to glue and paint (like the soda bottles, for instance), you can use it as a mold. I like blue shop towels soaked in about 50/50 water and wood glue. Sets up rock hard and it'll conform to anything while wet. I've even made armor out of it.

Look at pasta also. They are perfect for all kind of use: flat one, round ones. They can be bent with a little hot water, dry fast and paint easily

That's genius. I'll definitely look into use those towels, I've got a box of them!

Innards from computers, radios, laptops, keyboards, etc...and if you use plastic/aluminum wrap; the tube inside is quality sturdy cardboard with a nice smooth white exterior Also, razor blades: cut the plastic rivets and bingo, you'll have detailed plastic parts (I use Gillette; cheap at Wall Mart)!
